I didn't expect something like this to actually work on breaking up the huge roots and hard pieces of clay dirt and rock I get in my area - but it did! This product more than exceeded my expectations and I am more than glad I invested in it. Only warning I have is if you are not used to using something like this, seriously pace yourself. It's very heavy and the motion required to use it left me one hurt puppy for days after use.

This is a HEAVY duty tool. I'm building a stone wall and needed a tool to help cut through roots and pry rocks for the foundation. The butt end serves as a great tamping tool. You will NOT bend or kink this bar. This tool will last for generations. Highly recommended.

This item arrived very quickly and was just as it was described. I put it to use right away moving some very large rocks and also used it to help dig out a stump. I found that it's size and weight were just right for what I needed.

This is my first Amazon review, and I felt compelled to write this because I love this item so much! Gardening is my hobby, and when I was younger I worked for a landscaping company, so I have a pretty good amount of experience in the yard.... including using various garden tools. This tool is so simple and yet so effective. It is basically a long piece of solid metal. I just moved into a new residence, and am in the process of relandscaping my entire yard. That includes removing every existing plant and tree so I can start over. For the first several weeks of the removal process I used a pick, shovel, and other common garden tools. I then bought this tool and wished I had done so from the beginning. This tool goes through dirt easier than anything else (I hesitate to say like butter). It also makes short work of large roots, especially those that are underneath the plant/tree that are difficult to reach with other tools. Lastly, this tool will never break. It is solid! And the weight gives you a good work out. I am taking deep breaths after just a couple of minutes of swinging this tool, but it is so worth it! Probably one of the top 2 or 3 best garden tools I have ever used.

While digging post holes with my standard manual post hole digger, I hit solid soil & roots, and could not dig any deeper. After receiving my Digging Bar I returned to the project and put the bar to the test. The chiseled end made fast work of the roots & compact soil. The heavy weight and long reach of the bar easily broke up the soil for removal with my post hole digger. The trim work on the hole was a breeze and I was able to reach a 3 1/2' depth without having to work bent over. I haven't used the rounded tamp end yet, but know it will do the job a lot better than my old 2x4. It's smaller size will get into areas I couldn't get to previously and the weight of the bar will compact the soil for a firm fit of my 6x8" post. A perfect solution to post hole frustration.

First of all, I can't believe I got this in two days with Amazon Prime for free. It is everything I'd expect from a "spud bar" as I'm accustomed to calling it. It is very stout and sharp on the blade end. It is finished with a good powder-coating. It arrived wrapped in cardboard and paper in a box only slightly larger than the item itself. We're putting it to use this weekend. I just can't get over the fact that Lowe's didn't sell this and I found it on Amazon and had it shipped to me for under $40!

Works like a really long chisel when you are digging post holes. If you keep a 2 lb hammer on your tool belt, you can use it to cut through any tree roots you run across. You may not need the hammer because you can raise and drop this on the obstruction to break up the rock or cut through the root because it is very hefty.
