3.0 out of 5 stars I'll continue to use it.
I have used the True Back for about a month. It seems to help. It does stretch the lower back. My back is not as sore or stiff when I get up in the morning. (35 years as a carpenter can create a great deal of soreness and stiffness.) My back still hurts, just not as much and in different places. Then again, maybe it's all in my head. Anyway, I'll continue to use it...

I have had trouble with my back for years. Ideally, I would like to go the chiropractor every week but simply cannot afford it. This device decompresses my spine and takes all the tension out of my back. Each time I use it and get up, I have an incredible feeling of well being.

It takes only about 5-10 minutes each day and I feel great. The first time I tried it, it felt like a torture device but I believe that my body was that far out of wack. By the 3rd session I leaned to relax on the True Back and allow it to perform as it was designed.

It is not a substitute for a chiropactor but certainly has made it possible for me to go very long periods without having to see my doctor.

Give it a try. It has changed my life and just might help you too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very very helpful! Life changing? Probably, April 26, 2010
By
This review is from: True Back, Trueback Non-powered Orthopedic Traction Device
My background: male, 58 years old, 6'1", 300 pounds, C5/C6/C7 fusion, used to be athletic

I've owned my True Back for 2 years now, since March '08. I don't use it every day, though I probably should. My posture is much improved since I started using it, my sciatica is under control (without meds), and my mid-back pain is almost totally gone. And, BTW, my neck feels great!

I never realized that after years of sitting at a desk, or in a car, or in front of the TV, my back had become pretty much permanently bowed. The 1st time I tried the True Back it was very uncomfortable and I rolled off it groaning after 10 seconds. But that was my back's way of telling me what bad shape it was in. I kept working at it, and by the 2nd week I could stay on the True Back for about 30 seconds in both the lumbar position and the cervical position. After 3 months, I could lie down and take a nap on it! Totally comfortable in both positions! My back had finally stretched itself out and normal flexibility had returned.

During the 1st month, I used a pillow to support my head. But after 3 months, I could let my head just hang there and after about a minute my neck stretches out enough and relaxes that my head touches the floor. I also use it to stretch out my chest and shoulders by extending my arms out to the 9 o'clock/3 o'clock position, then 10 and 2, then 11 and 1, and let them just hang there. As the muscles and tendons relax, my hands slowly sink to the floor. AAAAH!

Getting to your feet after using the True Back can be difficult if you try to jump up from a totally stretched position. There's a trick to it. First, do a few pelvic thrusts upward (by this I mean use your muscles to lift your hips off the ground a few inches). Then do some crunches. In fact, I like to get a rocking motion going where I crunch, release, thrust, release, etc. After only 3 or 4 reps, my back feels loose in both directions, then it's super easy to just roll off to the side and stand up without any groaning!

What about the foam inserts? They're pretty much cosmetic when you weigh 300 pounds and don't really do anything. I don't even use them anymore.

I now enjoy my True Back so much that I use it while doing hamstring curls with my exercise ball, I use it for straight crunches and twisting crunches, for pelvic thrusts, for leg raises, and for twisting stretches. Sometimes I'll just lie there and squirm around on it letting the support ridges dig into my back muscles. Boy that feels good! In fact, now that I think about it, I wonder if that's why I don't go to the masseuse anymore? I used to go once a month. Now, I don't go at all (even though my Medical insurance pays for 12 massages per year.)

I think the True Back is really a great device. I don't know if it will work for you because everybody's body is different, but for under $100 this thing is a wonderful bargain. BTW, the one I bought was refurbished. But there's nothing you can really do to damage it. It's a big hunk of solid plastic. The only way to damage it would be with a hammer or saw. Or maybe a Rottweiler.

Usually skeptical about stuff advertised on TV....mostly because all informercials lie. My wife bugged me to get one and Amazon had one for a very good price and shipping was included. Received in two days and we both love this very simple gadget. Great design that allows your spinal column to be cradled in the correct orthopedic manner and get instant relief the moment you lie on it. I am shocked that this simple device works so well (as advertised, no less) and anyone with back pain could use the Trueback. After using it and examining it we were impressed how logical this things is. I will purchase more for friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars True Back is Miraculous, June 20, 2008

My back has been so painful that I literally have crawled down the hallway to get to the bathroom. Heating pads. Hot baths. 800 mg ibuprofen + darvon + acetominophen every 6 hours. Yeah. Been there, know that level of pain. True Back is EVERYTHING claimed for it, possibly more. Myself, my sister and my niece all have one. If your back is killing you True Back is the final solution. Better than ANY doctor IMHO. They must LOVE this thing...

5.0 out of 5 stars Feels great to me!, September 20, 2009

I could tell by looking at it that I would like it. My ache is between my shoulder blades and that it where this gizmo lines up when I lay on it. My back will "self-adjust" (pop) as I lay down, but while laying on it for a few minutes, the pressure it puts on the muscles that align my spine feels great. It is a "good hurt" feeling which I enjoy. I did put a blanket over it for a little cushion at first, but now I use it as is. If you put your feet flat on the floor and slowly rock your back up and down while laying on it, it acts as a massage!
My friend (who is 62) tried it and absolutely hated it. But he has no flexibility in his back at all. I've been receiving chiropractic care for years and the True Back reminds me of the traction table, only it doesn't roll across your back. I read all the reviews and can see how some would love it and some would hate it. I've tried it in both directions and I'm glad I have it.

I had low backache for nearly 20 years and went through all kinds of treatments, but none of them had long lasting result. Doctors couldn't see anything wrong with my back. Amazingly, I felt good the first time I tried true back. It's been about 2 weeks since I got it and I feel great. Not only I am pain free now, I also have a lot more energy. To me, this is the greatest invention since slice of bread. It practically gives me my life back.
A word of caution -- follow the instructions, do not use it for too long in the beginning, else you may develop uncomfortable symptoms. I also keep the foams in place and cover the entire area with a small blanket until you get use to it.

The first time I tried this thing, I was at my brother's house, and he had one. (Although he had upgraded to an inversion board.) At that time, I had been experiencing lower back stiffness every morning for about 10 days - this was the kind of back stiffness that would gradually loosen up as the day went on, and it would be essentially gone by the afternoon.

He conviced me to lay down on his true-back. I used it like he said - first with the hump-end at my upper back. Immediately my upper back popped a few times. It felt good! Then I turned it around and put the hump-end under my lower back, and laid back down on it. Within 2 minutes my back popped several times, and I felt much better!

That back pain did not come back. After a week or so, I figured that my back had gotten tweaked out, and apparently the true-back re-aligned it that quick.

A few weeks later, I was again getting lower back pain. So I bought it from here on Amazon. I began to use it, and this time I got a back-pop only occasionally. Still, it seems to stretch my lower back muscles, and after a couple of weeks of use I did not have any more back pain.

The device is small, and will silde under a bed. I keep mine in it's box in a closet.

I say that this simple device has merit - it will improve some minor conditions and is handy to have around. It works to a limited extent - it may save an occasional trip to the chiropracter (it did for me).

I recommend it for use under these limitations.

My Dad has been living with back pain for years and is at the point of having surgery but he does not want that. His girls are always trying to find him relief. I bought him a Trueback and now he says this is the first time he has had no back pain. You can hear it in his voice how much better he feels. He even was able to take his grandkids to SeaWorld - something he could never do before because of all the walking on pavement causing too much pain.

My Dad liked this product so much I bought him another back-up one and also my sister one who also has pain. Do I think this will work for every person - no - too many different back pains - but it definitely worth a try. I am very happy with the product and the company.

5.0 out of 5 stars It really does work!, September 9, 2008
This review is from: True Back, Trueback Non-powered Orthopedic Traction Device
I bought this because my back was all screwed up and I can't afford to go the chiropractor. I didn't know if it would work or not, but thought well it's worth a shot. The whole thing only cost what it would to make 2 visits to the chiropractor. I have a lot of lower back trouble, but now anytime I notice it hurting I will lay on the trueback for a while and when I get off I don't notice the pain anymore. I feel relaxed and taller actually too. Granted it's not like an adjustment that the doc would give ya, I don't think it "fixes" the problem, I don't know. But it does make the pain go away when I have it. So personally I am using it in place of the doc until I can pay for visits. So I would say if that's your intention to make it a substitute between visits (especially since they want you to visit 8 times a week..) then it's definately IDEAL! It's not a gimmic, it really does work, and is a great product. Hope this helps anyone who is sceptical...
