5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value and pleasureable scent *a must buy for a wet shave*

3.0 out of 5 stars Sticky Gooey Green Stuff
OK...so I'm a huge fan of the Truefitt and Hill Creams. I am totally in love with both 1805 and Grafton creams. This morning I tried Trafalgar and noticed while using it that it creates some sort of green slimy substance that was a consistency of corn syrup. It somewhat stuck to my face and was hard to rinse off. I suppose this is to create some sort of slick surface,...

I recently started wet shaving (within the last two months) and have come to regard shaving as something I look forward to now. I use a Merkur Futura double-edged razor and have bought an assortment of different shaving creams to try, including Prorasso (italian eucalyptus stuff), Taylor of Bond Street (avocado) and the Truefitt & Hill Traflagar. My top choice is the Trufitt & Hill hands down.

While many people might see the $22 as expensive, most people need to realize that a very little goes a long way. This is not like the Edge Gel or Barbasol that you learned to shave with. This just requires a dab on the wet brush (a real badger hair brush) and a swirl in a small bowl sitting in a a bit of hot drawn water to create a warm and thick lather that will make you enjoy shaving again. I would estimate this jar will last about 6 months.

In looking at the cost of my new shave method (52 blades a year ($0.50 each), two jars of shaving cream a year ($22 each) comes to about $70 a year. Compare this to a blade every other week and a can of alcohol-based shave gel (which dries your skin) every other month for a cost of $60. Ten bucks more a year buys a much better shave.

I've noticed that my shaves take a bit longer, but my skin has cleared up of many of the bumps that I used to have. I also no longer have a 5 o'clock shadow at 3 in the afternoon. Best of all the shave is the closest thing I've ever had to the shave I got from a barber in Florence, Italy using a steady hand and a scary looking straight blade.

This is the best bet for a shave cream !

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Cream for a Great Shave, February 8, 2006
I have been using soaps and creams for a few months now. I started to use soaps and creams mainly because they provide better value for the money and they help my sensitive skin.

I have always had sensitive skin and shaving never helped. I recently came across Truefitt & Hill Trafalgar and figured that if it was good enough for royalty, then I should give it a try. I can definitely see why this is the official royal shaving cream. It wasn't until I tried this cream and combined it with a Merkur Futur double-edged razor and badger brush that I knew what it was to have a close shave with no razor burn.

Like the previous reviewer said, most people need to realize that very little goes a long way. With just a small dab on a wet badger brush you will be able to create a warm and thick lather that will make you love shaving.

Shaving the old fashioned way will take a bit longer, but it will feel luxurious and the results are much better than anything you can get with a Mach 3 and a can of gel. I can finally go a whole day without shaving. If I go two days, I have a nice 5 o'clock shadow around 8.

This is the best bet for a shave cream. It smells very good and provides more than enough lubrication for a razor to simply glide over. A badger brush is a must though. Truefitt & Hill Trafalgar is simply fantastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent shaving cream for sensitive skin, May 1, 2007
This review is from: Truefitt & Hill Trafalgar Shaving Cream Jar (Health and Beauty)
My first experience with Trafalgar shaving cream was right after my girlfriend returned from a trip to London. While there, she visited the Truefitt & Hill barber shop and purchased the Trafalgar shaving cream for me as a souvenir. Since then, I've been hooked.

This is, by far, the best shaving cream I've ever used. The scent is masculine, but not too over-powering or musky. The lather is thick, rich and moisturizing. Although it is quite pricey, I've found that a little really goes a long way. I only need to shave about 3 or 4 times per week (I'm a slow grower), but a jar of Trafalgar cream usually lasts me around 7 months. Just use it sparingly and you'll be fine.

When I first started using Trafalgar I didn't use a brush. However, I found that using a brush allows me to use less shaving cream. So a brush is definitely worth the cost.

This stuff leaves the ubiquitous Proroso shave cream in the dust! When you factor in the size and amount needed this stuff is actually a better value than the Proraso as well. So don't get turned off by the price.

I had been using Proraso shave cream for a couple of years and while I got better results than a modern razor or electric razor I still had quite the problem with ingrown hairs and general irritation. Just a couple of days ago this Truefitt & Hill shave cream arrived in the mail. I had suspected that shave cream was shave cream for the most part (excepting the cheap grocery store brands), this is certainly not true. This stuff lathers so rich and velvety smooth with a badger brush. You need hardly any to work up a great lather. Once applied it smells good, musky and masculine but not over bearing. I noticed right away my Shark razor blade glided right over my face with the greatest of ease, giving me a super close shave but none of the irritation I got with the Proraso. Once done it leaves my face feeling soft and smooth.

I now look forward to shaving every morning! In fact it sometimes keeps me from hitting the snooze a couple extra times because I can't wait to begin the ritual. A ritual that used to be painful.

This shaving cream provides a fine shave. I suspect the extravagant praise it garners is due as much to the snob appeal as to the product itself. Still, it is good enough that I would buy it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, May 22, 2008

I thought this was a great product. It saw me through about 5 months of daily shaves, so I think it is a good value, though it is not exactly cheap. The lather it produces is rich and smooth, and it smells good, too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Makes shaving enjoyable ....., January 15, 2007

This shaving cream was very enjoyable to use. You only need an amount the size of a nickel or quarter in your palm to get a good lather. I do not use the badger hair brush yet but my shave is very comfortable and it smells good. It also has made shaving a more enjoyable experience for me which is worth a few bucks right there ! I tried the T & H West Indies Lime and the 1805 traveler size as well. The 1805 also smells good and the West Indies Lime had a bit of a musty, lime scent to it. You may want a more distinct lime scent but I have not tried any others with this smell.

This is an excellent shaving cream. The scent is very nice and the lather is rich and creamy, well worth the money when compared to the cheaper brands.

This morning I tried Trafalgar and noticed while using it that it creates some sort of green slimy substance that was a consistency of corn syrup. It somewhat stuck to my face and was hard to rinse off. I suppose this is to create some sort of slick surface, but honestly it was not soapy/lathery as I've come to expect from their products and it turned me off.

The scent as usual with their products was uniquely different and very nice but the the gooey green slime substance didn't win me over. I will spend my money next time towards Grafton. It's a real winner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chucking Everything Else In The Trash!!!, July 28, 2010

This review is from: Truefitt & Hill Trafalgar Shaving Cream Jar (Health and Beauty)
This stuff is amazing. I've just recently started shaving using a badger brush and cream/soap and after using Truefitt & Hill Trafalger I'm never going back. This lathers up so nice and smooth and helped me with the cleanest shave I've had thus far. It has a smell that cannot be explained, but in my opinion cannot be matched either. Very smooth yet masculine. I see how they say this lasts forever, I put a tiny dab on my Tweezerman brush and had enough to lather my face 3 times, with enough left to lather up probably another 3 times. This container is also very nice for travel with the screw on lid, it's really nice to not have to improvise a container or use something else for road trips. I will probably try a new scent next time, just because I want to try them all (maybe 1805), but Truefitt & Hill has won me over for life.
