This import album proves Savage Garden' musical range,
By A Customer
This review is from: Truly Madly Deeply (Remixes) (Audio CD)
This compilation of single B-sides and remixes ensues with the upbeat "All Around me," which is unoriginal but not bland, per se. It takes a familiar melody and warps it into something new, and the lyrics are subtly more sophisticated than those of the average dance song. The next track is the album version of the #1 hit single worldwide, "Truly Madly Deeply," which is a more intimate, tender love ballad. Those first two tracks alone prove the duo's muscial range, as the songs vary in tempo, in melody, and in rhthym. One track is upbeat, the other slow, but not necessarily plodding. This serves as a good introduction to the band, and the very placing of the tracks is something at which to marvel, for each track is wildly diverse, even if a few are alternate takes of the tracks preceding them. Savage Garden experiments with everything from instrumentation to distortion of vocals, proving their eagerness to attempt something different, something new. Some of the tracks, unfortunately, are a little too mediocre and unoriginal for my tastes, hence the four-star rating. This is a good introduction to a great group.

A tribute to Savage Garden...,
This review is from: Truly Madly Deeply (Remixes) (Audio CD)
After a demanding whirlwind ride of touring, publicity, video shoots, writing, and recording, Savage Garden has split up and both Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones are pursuing solo projects. I have spent four years of my life with their music and I will miss this creative, unique duo. Thank you for the many happy memories! I love Savage Garden...at the time they came onto the music scene they were an unheard of group with an unusual sound...and now there are plenty of unreleased songs and remixes to collect. "TMD Remixes" features all of the single/B-side songs (Memories are Designed to Fade, Love Can Move You, This Side Of Me, Fire Inside the Man, I'll Bet He Was Cool, All Around Me) and remixes. However, there are two songs that are NOT on this collection: the B-side "I Don't Care" from their latest album "Affirmation" and "Mine," a song off the Australian self-titled debut. Buying this collection saves the serious fans the trouble of hunting down hard-to-find import singles--the best cuts are all here! There is one addition I would have liked...the "Tears of Pearls Tears on the Dancefloor Remix," but there's more than enough here to keep a Savage Garden fan happy for days (or weeks, or months....) There is plenty of variety here, danceable beats, and a different side of Savage Garden to explore. This is a great CD, a perfect marriage of fun and serious music...too bad it wasn't released domestically, although I did have fun reading the Japanese cover and Japanese translations of the lyrics. If you're a serious Savage Garden fan or enjoy hearing different interpretations of a band's music, this album is for you. For all you musician fans of Savage Garden, check out their sheet music for "Savage Garden" and "Affirmation." Enjoy!

Truly Madly Wonderful,

This album is a compilation of the best of the first Savage Garden album plus remixes and B-sides. I've had this album for years and it still the sound is still fresh and new. Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones found a way to take us out of the grunge era and brought us into the the light of intelligent lyrics and pounding beats-this was the perfect start to a too short career.
