The recipes are okay -- they'll certainly help to vary your menus if you've found yourself stuck in a 5-meal cycle sort of rut. My 3-star rating has primarily to do with the set-up of the book. The meals have such odd names, it makes flipping through the book, utilizing the table of contents and/or the index pretty labor intensive. Several times I've picked this book up to look for a quick meal idea and ended up putting it down because I had to actually read through each recipe just to get an idea of what sort of meal it was. Straightforward, plain recipe names would've made for a more streamlined cookbook experience.

This book is full of delicious, easy to prepare recipes with nutritional information that enables me to prepare healthy, well balanced meals for my family that we ALL LOVE!! I find Tina's suggestions for substitutions and cooking tips very helpful in preparing first time recipes. I love the information Tina adds before each recipe, explaining the nutritional benefit of the recipe's content. I have many cookbooks that stay on the shelf, but this book, with the beautiful photos of prepared dishes entices me to try different recipes and is by far my favorite cookbook!!

The Truly Healthy Family cookbook is filled with quick, easy, healthy, delicious recipes. We've already cooked about 10 recipes from it and the kids have gobbled up everything. Now that school and dance are back in session, we'll be cooking from this book a lot! PS - We just made the Lamb Burgers, Shrimp Tacos (we grilled the shrimp iso sautéing), and New potatoes, olives, & tomatoes in a Dijon Vinaigrette for our Labor Day cookout. Not only did everyone love them, but a few guests asked for the recipes. Looks like some friends will be getting this cookbook as a Christmas present!

As a personal chef whose clients are always looking for healthy meals, I loved this cookbook. Tina understands the nutritional value of food and puts together flavorful recipes that anyone will love. The kale frittata is simple yet scrumptious and satisfying. The twist on the Lebanese Tabbouleh is inventive and delicious. Looking forward to trying her creamy pumpkin coffee! The Brownies are so rich you can't tell they are a healthy version. I will be using Tina's recipes for my clients.

This is such a fine book, clearcut for healthy cooking and using fresh ingredients. We bought the book in September, and are using it every weekend - my husband cooks one day and I cook the other. A fun exercise in sharing the kitchen responsibilities!

I like this cookbook, but.... it kind of annoys me that she says things like "easy recipe for things you already have in the pantry" and they are not ordinary items.
Made the salmon patties (used shrimp) and everyone in the house at them 8, 10 and 12 year old boys, me and husband.

I am a guy who loves food. I will also try most any food. My mother always said you must try it, before you can say you do not like it. My wife and I we're delighted to see how easy it was to prepare healthy meals in a quickly manner. The “fun” meal names and stories that Tina uses invite you to read the menu and look at the ingredients. On first read, the names intrigue me and just under the name were the main ingredients of the dish so that I quickly knew weather I was looking at a fish dish, beef dish, salad or dessert. Take for example the dish called "The Three Musketeers". Just below the name appears the description identifying the dish as "Baked Salmon with Blackberry and Pear Compote." Next is a small story, either personal and/or related to the ingredients of the dish which make this cookbook an interesting read just for fun and facts. These stories as well as "Tina's Tips" at the bottom of the recipe provide a wealth of health education and options available with the menu.
Salmon is common in my diet so I immediately went to the index and checked out salmon and fish. “The Three Musketeers” recipe was listed under both. I find the index to be very thorough in both broad categories like fish and a more specific desire like salmon. You can find all salmon dishes listed under the heading fish and under the heading salmon itself. If it's in the recipe, it's in the index. This makes finding any specific type of recipe or ingredient we desire to prepare, very quick and easy to find. The table of contents places the salmon dish under the heading "Power Proteins from Land and Sea" showing Tina's love of food groups and nutrition. This chapter is even referenced in the index under protein.
