The playing on this CD by Geoffrey Payne is wonderful. He has great tone and awesome technical facility. I bought this CD when I was looking for recordings of the Arutunian Concerto. The Tomasi is another favorite of mine which Payne also plays well. Before this CD I had never heard the Richard Mills or William Lovelock trumpet concertos before, they both sounded really good! This CD features good playing, and shows that there is some wonderful modern trumpet concertos out there as each of these concertos was wrote in the twentieth century.

This is a great CD, especially for the Tomasi. Quite frankly past versions have been a snore. Payne brings a great deal of excitement to the piece and proves that a trumpet concerto doesn't have to be boring. Beyond that he has a huge sound and excellent control. If you want to see how to get an audience's attention playing these works listen to this CD.
