the best Hummel reading I know,

Once as I was driving I turned on the radio and caught this performance of the Hummel concerto just after the opening chords; so I didn't know who was performing it. I found the reading so gripping, so expressive that I sat in a parking lot for ten mintues and was late for my appointment so that I could find out who it was. This is a work with which I'm thoroughly familiar and of which I own ten or fifteen different recordings, and this is by a comfortable margin the best of them... better even than Gerard Schwarz's great performance. The reading of the Haydn here is pretty bland, and the other works are played well but are rather incidental pieces, not of particular interest except to trumpet players. But buy this album for the Hummel concerto. Highly recommended.

These are good performances. I think that the performance of Hummel is better then Wynton's. Also unlike the Amazon.Com reviewer says there is lots of modern works for trumpet, and the instrument doesn't have "expressive limitations"
