5.0 out of 5 stars big joe moans and trumpets wail!, December 9, 2001

This unique date with whose who on the horn kills. I guess it
always will. I bought Big Joe a couple of stouts once. I
think he had a little crush on my girlfriend so I got to hang
with him a couple of nights at Fat Tuesday. This was a very
endearing man who could shake your soul one moment and break
your heart the next. This multi trumpet all star bash meshes
beautifully into Joeville. Bluesy late night exquisite.

4.0 out of 5 stars the Blues Meet the Jazz, April 2, 2008

4 of the greatest trumpet players in jazz and a great Kansas City vocalist give their all for Norman Granz. Expertise combined with a lot of fun and a lot of blues feeling is a mix that may be hard to duplicate these days. My own favourite is I Know You Love me Baby, particularly Eldridge's muted trumpet backing for Joe Turner early in the track, but there is a lot of fine playing and singing. And let's not forget Pee Wee Crayton and the R&B rhythm section
