5.0 out of 5 stars Trumpet Legacy, a Legacy Indeed, March 25, 2001
This review is from: Trumpet Legacy (Audio CD)
This CD helps me with expanding my own improvisation skills on my trumpet the most out of all of the jazz CD's I own. It is also one of my most favorite CD's in my collection. I can listen to this album over and over again from beginning to end and get so much out of it. The emotion, the skill, it's amazing. The content has such variety. From feel-good, "The Sidewinder" to melt-your-heart, "My Funny Valentine." Even the solos within the individual songs offer such great variety. "The Sidewinder" in particular is my favorite song on the album because of the soloists' contrast. The first soloist stays primarily in the lower register of the instrument and has this fuzzy, quiter sound that is just cool, good listening. Then the next soloist is all high notes and tricks. It's a faster pace, a different tone. It pulls you into the song, and into the album when the contrast is so great. "Jordu" features an amazing duet that I listen to over and over again. All-in-all, this CD is high-quality listening, fun, feel-good jazz.
