Doc Severinsen is one of the greatest trumpet performers of our time. Other players may have better technique or intonation than Doc, but he can make music with such style and feeling, it's amazing.
This album is one of the most exiting trumpet collections I have. Doc's rendition of Napoli is awesome. Even the sublime Jesus, Joy of Man's Desiring comes to life with Doc's playing.
This is a great CD to start or augment any music collection.

The work of Doc Severinson and the Cinninnati Pops Orchastra goes beyond words. This album is a must for all, regardless of your music preference. Thank you Doc Seversinson for the countless hours of pleasure you have given me and my family through these performances.....

This album really lets Severinson shine. I always felt he was underchallenged on the Tonight Show. And Kunzel is at his best here, too. If you like Doc and Erik, also give a listen to Big Band Hit Parade.

Doc is one of the most talented trumpeters alive today, and this performance proves it. He sings through his trumpet with the mastery of the great tenors, lifting the listener as he soars with utter finesse to musical heights rarely reached by instrumentalists (even those more celebrated orchestral folks). I often commute between NJ and Long Island, and this CD has greatly reduced the stress of that unpleasant commute and given me plenty of inspiration to practice my own trumpet. Thanks Doc!
Buy this CD. You won't regret it.

If you have never seen Doc live, this would be a good substitute! This CD covers a good range of music without feeling like a "bits and pieces" album. I still have my trumpet, and if it was possible, I would have worn out many copies of this CD since its release way back when.

This rich, vibrant collection shows Doc's enormous talent and range of tonal resonance--from delicate and subtle to bold and fearless. I bought this CD when it first came out (I was in high school at the time, heavily studying music, with a focus on the trumpet) and I must have replayed this disc hundreds of times, carefully listening to Doc's masterful use of musical language. I have always looked to Doc as a guide for clear, clean tone and effortless play and these arrangements really show that magic.

I love the accessible mix of pieces. Not too heavily classical, not too poppy or easily outdated. It's still very listenable and is not a turn-off to listeners who typically dislike classical, or find it boring. As another reviewer said, this is a must-have for ANY music collection, not just a fan of symphonic composition.

I lost the original CD long ago and am thrilled to replace it.
