An album deserving of its title,
By A Customer
This review is from: Trumpet Summit Meets The Oscar Peterson Big Four (Audio CD)
If you like be-bop you'll love this album. Three fantastic horn players jamming together. You can imagine the fun these guys had whilest recording this album. The recording captures the essence of a jam session very well - sadly, something many jazz albums lack. Joe Pass's guitar offers a nice contrast to the intensive playing of the trumpets which, at times, reach notes far above the natural register of the instrument. A piece of advice: don't listen to the album if your nerves are currently frayed - chill out first!!

Jazz is amazing: through innumerable versions with a dazzling array of participants, at its best the songs are fresh and even so different that they seem entirely new. This is an absolutely wonderful CD: you feel the life and inspiration pulsing though the players as they create something entirely unique, even if many of the songs are old favorites. If ever I feel down or tired, I put this on for an injection of life energy.
Warmly recommended. |
