1688 English Music and Political Plot,
By "conniesmith12" (Canada but living in South Korea) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Trumpets in the West (Paperback)
Trumpets in the West refers to the sound of the Monmouth Battle in Somerset, England in 1688. Jack remembers these sounds by composing music. This story is based on historical fact and tells of the life of a boy apprenticed to a famous musician and how he becomes involved in a political plot. I read this story because the author is famous for being the first write historical fiction for young readers. He is also famous for making girls important in the plot which was unheard of until he started doing it. This isn't the most famous of Geoffrey Trease's novels but it exemplifies his quality of writing and gives good focus to the English social climate of 1688. I recommend it as a quick, fun, and educational read.
