This review is from: Trust Me: Developing a Leadership Style People Will Follow (Hardcover)
Wayne Hastings and Ron Potter have written an inspirational book that provides the key principles we all need to guide us in our personal and business lives. It is a book to be kept close at hand to keep our thinking and actions on the path of a principle based life. The real life stories and the opportunity provided to reflect after each chapter with thought provoking questions about ourselves and how we interact with others helps teach us how to be leaders others can trust.

SPIRITUAL VALUES & LEADERSHIP,
By Gerry Stern "Stern's Management Review Online" (Culver City, CA United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Trust Me: Developing a Leadership Style People Will Follow (Hardcover)
Presents a style of leadership based on 8 values: humility; development; commitment; focus; compassion; integrity; peacemaking; and endurance. The authors explore how these spiritual values are keys to building trust with people and becoming a successful leader, as well as building a successful career. This book has its distinct point of view-no question about it. But given the abundance of bad leadership in business, politics, and other spheres, the spiritual qualities this book links with effective leadership deserve serious consideration.

Character Inside before Power Accumulates Outside: That's How Leaders Evolve,
By J. Gresham "Jon, the CivilSociety and MultiSm... (Montgomery, AL usa) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Trust Me: Developing a Leadership Style People Will Follow (Hardcover)
I found this book fascinating as the authors focus on the internal world of leaders who are trustworthy, and the nurture of a character that others will want to follow. My favorite quotes:
--To be teachable, one must devote a significant amount of time to learning. --Leaders are defined buy those who follow them. --A successful mentoring experience does require a significant prerequisite: a quality person to mentor. --The mentoring or coaching role is mainly about creating a safe environment to discuss any topic. --Trustworthiness means being reliable, faithful, and unfailing. Trustworthy leaders are honest and transparent, committed, dedicated, and keep promises and confidences. They also have the moral courage to do the right thing and to stand up for what they believe even when it is difficult to do so. --In practical, day-to-day leadership, only what is accomplished matters. --Compared to high-profile leaders with big personalities who make headlines and become celebrities, the good-to-great leaders [leaders who have taken companies to unprecedented long-term growth] seem to have come from Mars. Self-effacing, quiet, reserved, even shy--these leaders are a paradoxical blend of personal humility and professional will. They are more like Lincoln and Socrates than Patton or Caesar. For aspiring leaders, this book will help you clarify the character traits needed inside before the power accumulates outside.

Trust Me is a book for leaders who want their influence to last. Many people can achieve immediate success, but lasting and fulfilling success can only be found with timeless truths as explained in this book by Wayne Hastings and Ron Potter. Knowing Ron personally, I have seen him live out these life lessons on leadership in a way that bears much fruit for his professional, personal, and spiritual life. I especially appreciated the chapters on development and focus. Trust me is an excellent book that will build other's trust in your leadership goals and abilities.

A Must Read,

This review is from: Trust Me: Developing a Leadership Style People Will Follow (Hardcover)
I lead a team of individuals who are seasoned leaders and probably feel qualified to teach a course in leadership. Well as my father always told me growing up a good day is when you learn something and put it to practical use. If you are leading a group of individuals and think you have the game mastered think again. Read Trust Me because it is a refreshing book with simple, practical ideas that can be utilized in any type of business. It really is a chance to do some introspective thinking on how effective my leadership style really is on a daily basis. Lastly, this book put into perspective the greatest leader of all times Jesus. Many people work 60 plus hours a week and lose perspective on the big picture this book will help you in your daily life as well. I bought the book prior to a plane ride and could not put it down.

Trust Me is solid food for all.,
By Gordon Gustafson (Crete, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Trust Me: Developing a Leadership Style People Will Follow (Hardcover)
Having read a number of Management-style books over the years, I always found it was a bit like panning for gold to find the nugget that could be applied. Until now, I had not read one where the concepts were so clearly presented, and where every principle was significant, and I could embrace them as aligning with my own concept of leadership style, both professionally and personally. As Hastings and Potter present, these can't be separated. The leadership concepts are well described, and argument convincing. The style of summarizing the main points of at the end of each chapter, a Bible study approach providing questions to reflect on how to apply in one's life, and applicable quotes and entertaining stories from their experiences to support the points, make for enjoyable reading, and easy reference. The book is not just for business executives, it has application to all who represent the company. The concept of humility and endurance as they describe them are the kingpins of how we want our company to be known, and represented. The book will be recommended reading for our commercial team; even though some don't have other company people for whom they are responsible, they represent us, are responsible for themselves, and families, and will learn from the work of Hastings and Potter.

a must read for physicians, too,
By A Customer
This review is from: Trust Me: Developing a Leadership Style People Will Follow (Hardcover)
When I started my career as a physician, I had no idea that managing my employees would be so much harder than caring for my patients. My medical training had prepared me to be a clinician and a healer, but I didn't have the slightest idea about how to be a leader. In Trust Me, Ron Potter and Wayne Hastings reveal the eight characteristics that every leader must have to earn the trust and support of his or her staff, team, or organization. Writing with compassion and wisdom, Potter and Hastings give readers the information and inspiration they need to develop these characteristics. I was relieved to learn that I didn't have to be ruthless, devious, or bossy to be a good boss. Using the techniques I learned in Trust Me, I find that I'm not only a better, leader, I'm also a better person. Great book!

TRUST ME,
By "Nord" (John) Nordlinger (Ann arbor, MI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Trust Me: Developing a Leadership Style People Will Follow (Hardcover)
I am a career professional educator (40+ years), mostly in administrative capacities. Recently I received and read TRUST ME by Hastings & Potter. I can truthfully say that my perception of leadership has been dramatically altered by reading and re-reading the concepts presented by these gifted authors. Many of the principles were familiar and just required "dusting off." Others were like 'Manna from Heaven' (why hadn't I thought of that!?!). I enthusiastically urge anyone involved in leadership to acquire and read TRUST ME today.

Review from Paul Tulenko, Ph.D.,

With all the political folderol we are subjected to these days I'd like to present a book on trust, one that could help us make decisions. A warning ... this book is designed to make you think; but then that's a necessary task for learning, isn't it? That said, the lessons taught in the 8 sections are flawlessly presented as workable tools for success. What kind of leader are you? What kind of leader would you want to work for? Exploring of the leadership traits of humility, development, commitment, focus, compassion, integrity, peacemaking, and endurance is well done. I especially like the way Wayne and Ron start sections with a comprehensive overview of the section title. For example, when talking about humility, the first thing we learn is that to be 'humble' means to be well grounded, a person who sticks to the basics, and is truthful in every aspect. |
