Book Description

March 14, 2002
Thousands of mothers found reassurance as well as real solutions for mother-daughter conflict in "I'm Not Mad, I Just Hate You!" Now, Roni Cohen-Sandler brings the same sound advice and practical expertise to the issues that erupt around a teenage daughter's social life. Whether a daughter is nearing puberty or in the throes of adolescence, mothers today anguish over the best way to deal with seemingly endless issues of attitude, self-image, secrecy, friends, boyfriends, and nightlife. Cohen-Sandler introduces a five-step approach to parenting teens effectively using the concept of BRAIN-Being flexible, respectful, attuned, involved, and noncontrolling-and addresses topics such as:

* To Snoop or Not to Snoop-respecting a daughter's privacy
* Parties and Partying-staying safe while having fun
* Body image and identity-how they relate to making smart decisions
* Setting limits-when they can become a detriment and when they can build trust

Rooted in psychologically sound principles as well as clinical and personal experience, this is a new model of parenting, based on love, trust, and discernment, for a new generation of mothers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thinking Before you React- A Helpful Guide to Parenting, March 23, 2002
This review is from: Trust Me Mom, Everyone Else is Going! (Hardcover)
This book is full of wise, useable, pro-active strategies for taxed parents. Excellent ways for planning and executing conversations about sex, peer related delemas, body-image problems, and discipline for the modern teen are available in this book. It is easy to read a chapter at a time, as various issues arise, and there are many comforting examples of mothers who have gone before you. Even reading the examples of what NOT TO SAY to your teenage daughter in response to various provocations, was very helpful. With all of the difficult moment to moment choices that mothers are forced to confront, it helps to have thought these issues out and taken them apart. The most helpful parenting concept I learned while reading this book is that it is vital to ponder and contain many thoughts and feelings, before reacting, when coping with a teenager. In an astute, good-humored, sympathetic fashion, Roni Cohen-Sandler offers us plenty to consider along the way.

An interesting take on mothers and their daughters. Alot of it was common sense knowledge in my opinion. Worth a quick read.
