Book Description

December 11, 2001
With articulate words, Tommy Tenney helps lead us past tragedy to that place of trust. After reading this book, you will know what to do and know what to say. Most people-including Christians-avoid brokenness and personal failure at all costs. They will deny the truth to avoid pain. Yet tragedy visits every generation; hardship touches every life. The only question, then, is how will we respond. God promises to be near the brokenhearted. As Tenney puts it, "God is waiting to meet us on our way home from the funeral. The One who said, 'Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted,' fully intends to comfort us personally if we make the effort to detour from our road of grief to search for Him." Many believers first turned to God in the moment of crisis. Trust and Tragedy shows them how to find Him there again. For "whenever there is earthly brokenness, there is always heavenly openness."

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for dealing with Tragedy, Trauma, & Loss, March 28, 2003
This review is from: Trust And Tragedy Encountering God In Times Of Crisis (Paperback)
One again Tommy Tenney has come through. Right after the events of 9/11/01, the Lord prompted Tommy Tenney to write this book. Tommy then felt that the TBN broadcasting audience should have the first shot at it. TBN is one of mailing lists that I'm on through the ministry. So, in February of 2002, I got a copy of this book.

One of the weaknesses of many Christians is that they don't know what to do when extreme bad things happen (tragedy, trauma, loss, etc.). First, it's hard enough to deal with when those things happen in our own lives. But when they happen to others and they turn to us for advice & support, we're just as lost.

In this book, Tommy Tenney tells us what to do during those times of pain & heartbreak. What he explains can be used for us or for others when they go through tough times. As it was no surprise to me, he quotes from the Beautitudes and how they apply to us today. As Tommy said, "God is waiting to meet us on the way home from the funeral." In other words, God is there for us no matter what we're going through. Sometimes we feel as if we need more of him.

Kudos once again to Tommy Tenney. If you're going through something that's been difficult or already have, this book is for you. If you know someone that is going through a tough time or the aftermath of it, this book would be the perfect gift for them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Do You Know Whom To Trust?, May 9, 2005
This review is from: Trust And Tragedy Encountering God In Times Of Crisis (Paperback)
Tommy Tenney traveled around the world as an itinerant minister for twenty years. He is a prolific writer residing in Louisiana with his family. In this smll book, he seeks ways to understand what happened on 9-11, 2001, in American. That was a warning that the United States can not got onto foreign soil and force evil and corrupt leaders to change their ways of life. This warning has not been heeded, and we are still over there, where we don't belong and the whole country may go up in flames becasue of an egostical U. S. President who loves the limelight.

We cannot "police" the world and don't have the ethical right to go into a country tow hundred backwards but much richer in resources and "make them" give up their way of life. If you see the movie, KINDGOM OF HEAVEN, you will come to understand the history of wars in the Holy Land at the time of the Crusades. Wars (religious and otherwise) have continued in that God forsake land and will continue until the end of time. If God did not want the 5,000 "innocent souls" to be instantly snuffed out in the manner in which it happened, why did He allow it to happen at all? The Bible was written for the years B.C. and not for 2005 A.D. with the current crises and turmoil.

When all those people died in New York and Pennsylvanic, I learned that the hamangioma on my liver was not situated in an area to burst and cause internal bleeding -- and I was not dying right away. I had a new lease on my life, buy all those folks died a useless, tragic death because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

You can preach until the cows come home, but if God did not want the United States of America to learn a lesson perhaps the terrorism would not have developed into such hatred toward this country. God had nothing to do with it! They died; I live. My twenty-yr-old grandson Tristan has just died in an automobile accident. Why him? Why not me? We can't fathom death, but we can work to keep this kind of killing from happening again. We can bring our military men home before they are all killed on foregin land.

Watch KINGDOM OF HEAVEN if possible, written by William Monohan, and you will learn that their God is not our God! They are not understanding and sharing people -- they don't hve God in their hearts. Look at how low Saddam sank before he was found hiding in a hole like an animal. America should work to be the best example of God-fearing people for the sake of its existence. Else we may be blown to smitterens by heathens.

Paul F Crouch of TBN wrote a short, inspiring foreword. Tommy Tenney attempts to use funeral and biblical references to influence the reader to 'know what to do and what to say.' But Do You Know WhomTo Trust? Will God really save us, or is He on their side in the War of Worlds? We will soon know the way things are happening over there.
