Editorial Reviews

Rocco DeLuca's first release on Ironworks. Produced by Jude Cole and backed by some of LA's premier studio musicians. Rocco plays and sings a stunning array of his compositions that have been stirring a buzz on the LA scene for the last year.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bringing back good ol' country rock... November 2, 2006
Format:Audio CD
Giving off the feeling of standing in a smoky bar with a beer in one hand and a cigarette hanging from your lips, `I Trust You to Kill Me' is the perfect music to get drunk and play pool to. With an almost bluegrass sound at times coupled with rock roots and guitar work that impossible to typecast, Rocco Deluca & the Burden may not have created the perfect musical experience, but they came pretty close.

Song's like `Dope' and `Swing Low' give us the steel guitar country rock roots that makes a bar feel like home, while the maturity and melodic grace of tracks like the beautiful `Busride' (my favorite track here) and `Mystified' almost place Rocco at a completely different level. And yet again he hits another chord with tracks like 'Gravitate' and 'Soul' with the pure rock atmospere he creates. An experience to enjoy from start to finish, `I Trust You to Kill Me' is an album we should all give a chance. If the opener `Gift' doesn't grab you then `Dope' should.

The hidden track `Dillon' is soft and simple while `Daybreaker' sounds like good old fashioned country rock. Any fan of the glory days of `Sweet Home Alabama' and the like are sure to enjoy every track on this glorious effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best of the Year July 21, 2006
Format:Audio CD
I met Rocco at a party and he seemed like a cool enough guy, but I wasn't sure I was going to dig his sound. I needn't have worried as everything he has going for him works beautifully and is showcased in "I Trust You To Kill Me." Every track works and the succession of songs keep building in an artful, unpretentious way that keeps one's attention throughout.

The guitarwork here is really impressive and, wedded to the light, but intense sound of his voice, this album should make Rocco a household name.

Get it while it's cheap friends!

Can't recommend this one enough!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rocco Rocks are Diamonds! May 20, 2005
Format:Audio CD
Thank God Music isn't dead; I was beginning to despair that my declining years would be spent in agony listening to dull blasting beats from britney-spear-clones and repetitive violent gangsta-raps...then along comes Ironworks Music to Save the Century of new rock!

Jude Cole's delivering Rocco into our arms to hold close and savor his heart-felt melodies made me want to weep and dance for joy at the same time--Real Music, to continue singing a kinship to the Soul of good people everywhere! I look forward to more of Jude Cole, Rocco, and Ironworks Music!!

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the best ever! January 25, 2007
Format:Audio CD
i first discovered Rocco Deluca when i seen a music video for "colorful" and immediately i loved it! the first person i thought of after listening to the album was Jeff Buckley, like another reviewer said on here, who is also amazing. Rocco Deluca has a powerful brilliant voice that we dont often hear these days, and i am glad to have picked this cd up today!

i love the mysterious-ness of "gift" which is very jeff buckley-esque... and the upbeat "soal" & "colorful" and the beautiful "mystified" . all the songs seem to flow together nicely . definitley worth a listen!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rocco Scores a Winner January 10, 2007
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is one of those CDs I play repeatedly but don't get tired of. I saw Rocco on a VH-1 special -- I was intrigued by his slide guitar work and like his voice so I got the CD. There's not a bad song on here - Mystify Me is great, as are Colorful and Dope. The rest are not far behind. The overall sound is reminiscent of early Led Zepplin and takes me back to my early days of listening to rock and roll.

I really, really enjoy this CD. It's rare these days to be able to find an album that you can literally play all the way through without skipping tracks, but this is one of them. Like a few of the other reviewers, I found this band via the "I Trust You To Kill Me" rock-u (which is awesome, btw - hilarious and introspective all in one blow) on VH-1 and couldn't have been more thankful that they have a famous guy that owns their record label. Keifer Sutherland was able to promote them and possibly give them opportunities that they might not have had otherwise, but I think they'll stick around because they're a talented band. The lyrics, the way the music just all comes together in the end - yeah, it's good.

My favorite tracks are Gift, Colorful, How Fast, Speak to Me and without a doubt, Bus Ride (that song is wonderful - the longing and the hope that Rocco was able to convey in both the words and the way he sings...it's phenomenal). Hands down, a good investment. It would've been better, though, had the title song actually been included on the CD, but I'm not gonna complain - I'll just hit up iTunes.

It's worth a listen, guys - and that ain't no lie.

3.0 out of 5 stars this artist needs to be seen to be believed November 12, 2006
Format:Audio CD
I saw Rocco Deluca & the Burden when they opened for Robert Randolph & the Family Band, and I was blown away. Rocco's live show is incredible, I was entranced by every song, and this is atypical because usually, I don't really enjoy performances unless I am at least familiar with the music of the artist. The passion in the performance and the voice of this band blew me away. So I excitedly purchased the cd. After listening to the studio CD, however I was disappointed. The power of the live show of this band did not translate, and the music sounds like something i've heard before, instead something to be excited about. The CD is still very good, and I would suggest buying it, because lyrically it is very mature, and the use of the dobro resonator guitar is very different.

Some of the highlights include the songs Favor, Soul, and Dope.

If you have the opportunity however see them live. Then you will see why their first CD is only the beginning.

Just overwhelmingly enjoyable. The highlights are the guitar work from Rocco and his voice which is light and expressive. The songcraft is quite good, as well. Read more

I did not care for this video with Keifer Sutherland. I think he likes to puff his ego up a little bit.
