5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Book
This timeless book is biblically accurate and helps explain in a clear way God's sovereignty and and love in His personal dealings with each one of us. The workbook forces one to grapple with tough issues in light of Scripture. I've been through the study with a group where one member had terminal cancer and one had a second trimester miscarriage. Everyone found it...

1.0 out of 5 stars A misguided theology of an impersonal and uncaring god.
Jerry Bridges seems to be stuck in a theology of the middle ages, like telling a child an ugly story to coerse him/her into some righteous behavior. He seems to have little understanding of the context of the apostle Paul's writings, and he takes every Biblical statement that suites his purpose to such a literal extreme that all hope of reality and usefulness is...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Life-Changer!, January 27, 1999
This review is from: Trusting God: Even When Life Hurts, Study Guide (Paperback)
As a Christian for 18 years, some books out of the many I have read stand out as true life-changers. Trusting God is one of them. One can read the Bible and books about God, go to church, pray to Him, and share with others about Him. But until we learn to really believe in His awesome power, interest and involvement in our lives, we fail to enjoy the truly rich life He offers us through trust in Him. Jerry Bridges teaches us this profound trust.

5.0 out of 5 stars A well-written and biblically accurate source of comfort, November 15, 1998

This review is from: Trusting God: Even When Life Hurts, Study Guide (Paperback)
A well-written and biblically accurate source of comfort to those suffering. Finally, Christians have an answer to the popular book _When Bad Things Happen to Good People_ by Rabbi Kushner. I think the book is well-organized and theologically sound. Bridges clearly shows from a Bible perspective that God is sovereign, in control, and loving all at the same time.

I commend this book to anyone who is suffering from a set back or tragedy. Bring your tough questions and even your anger over "WHY?", Bridges shows rightly that God stands with open arms ready to comfort us in our point of need.

Jerry Bridges has taken a most basic principle of faith, trust, and shown us the depth of how learning to trust God in all situations can open to us a new world of peace, knowing the presence of God, and growing in the likeness of Christ.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trusting a Sovereign God, September 2, 2009
By

(VINE VOICE)
Anyone who has read the best-selling The Pursuit of Holiness will recognize the very familiar, plain-English style and sense of Jerry Bridges. In the 20th Anniversary paperback edition of Trusting God, Dr. Bridges takes the very deep and extremely important doctrine of God's sovereignty and lays it out clearly, simply, and not only well within the grasp of the newest convert to Christ, but also presents it logically and thoughtfully so that the most mature theologian can appreciate this work and glean many great things from it.

In his Preface to the treatise, he writes, "The purpose of this book is twofold: First, I desire to glorify God by acknowledging His sovereignty and His goodness. Second, I desire to encourage God's people by demonstrating from Scripture that God is in control of their lives, that He does indeed love them, and that He works out all the circumstances of their lives for their ultimate good" (pg. 9). In this, Jerry Bridges accomplishes his goals most triumphantly.

Trusting God is categorized as Christian Living or Spiritual Growth for the very good reason that its approach to the circumstances daily faced by the individual believer is both practical and personal. Yet, the truths that Dr. Bridges presents concerning the attributes of God, especially in His sovereign goodness, would make this book equally at home on the shelf in the Theology section.

Those whose theology tends toward an emphasis upon the free will of man will most certainly gain a better understanding of how Reformed thinkers generally view the blessedness of God's sovereignty; and those of us whose theology stands firmly on the doctrines of grace will find a very compassionate presentation of this doctrine, which by God's grace, may temper us away from a tendency to approach God's sovereignty like the proverbial bull in a china shop, just because we see the urgent need to proclaim this truth in American pulpits today.

The doctrine of God's sovereign grace is so neglected today that this book is a must-read for those who have never read it; and it is also a must-reread for those who have already read it too many years ago. Trusting God, and the sovereignty of God this book proclaims, is more culturally relevant today than it was twenty years ago during its first publication. Therefore, I highly commend the reading of Trusting God to anyone that has a desire to worship God more deeply and commune with Him more intimately.

Trusting GOD is one of the most needed books I have read. I believe that most Christians do not understand GODs control. This book will certainly help......if one is seeking GODs wisdom, knowledge and understanding with all of their hearts.

With divorce, addiction, crime, earthquakes, hurricanes, surgery, and all manner of suffering affecting individuals of all sociological strata in a mostly post-Christian culture it is too easy to forget God or even blame Him for the woes and affilictions we experience. In "Trusting God", Jerry Bridges puts suffering, affliction, and the woes of this world back in the proper perspective. We can Trust God and Jerry Bridges tells us how. Although this book is not "light reading", focusing on the insights it provides will lighten the load of life as you come to Trust God.

5.0 out of 5 stars He is God and I am not, July 20, 2008
This review is from: Trusting God: Even When Life Hurts, Study Guide (Paperback)
Not only did I read Trusting God but I used it to teach a series of lessons to my neighborhood ladies Bible study group. I recently lost my 28 year old daughter to a severe heart condition and Jerry Bridges' book helped me to find many answers to my whys. I was able to take the book and the experience to relay to the group that God is always in control and that all things have a purpose in the big scope of a Sovereign God. Learning to trust Him has brought peace into my life by letting God lead and trusting God in ALL things. Trusting God is the best book I have ever read on the topic of an all-powerful and all-loving God.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoughtful words from a wise, seasoned pilgrim . . ., February 9, 2008

Jerry Bridges is such a gift to the body of Christ, and this book is another example of his great teaching gift.

We have been using this book in our small group, and it has been both powerful and painful. Painful because folks who have been Christians for many years are finding themselves wrestling -- many for the first time in their lives -- with the idea of the sovereignty of God. Powerful because Jerry dares to declare the truth of the Bible: that God is indeed sovereign and yet we are still 100% responsible. If you've grown up hearing a man-centered, theologically shallow presentation of Christianity, you need this book!

Having been through great suffering himself, Jerry is especially qualified to invite us to trust God . . . even in the midst of our own pain and doubts.
