Great New Parent Reading,
By Jason Butler (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Truth About Babies: From A-Z (Paperback)
I read this book during the first month after my daughter was born. It was massively comforting and the sections are wonderfully short. Just enough to read in the ten minutes between crying and sleeping. It is a reasurring and gently literate book that welcomed me into parenthood with the idea, to paraphrase, that you wonder how you're going to do it, and then you realize a month later that you are doing it. Fantastic.

Enlightened and honest reflections by a new parent.,

Ian Sansom is very knowledgeable about literature, philosophy and pop culture. But a baby causes one to reconsider everything! It is not a guide book to child care, it is a collection of reflections. I think Sansom is a fabulous writer and try to always have one of his books with me (his Mobile library series is so much fun.)

You think this is the book for you,

You read the NYRB and go to small movies and you think "Ah, Granta, this is the baby book for me." Only it isn't quite. It's still pretty good though. |
