Contains useful information.,
This review is from: The Truth About Witchcraft (Paperback)
There is probably no other book in the market that can fully explain the truth about witchcraft as briefly as this book. Scott Cunningham is a wonderful author and Wiccan. In this book he explains why witches aren't 'satanic' and don't gather in covens for ritual 'orgies'. He explains the true nature of folk magic and witchcraft, and is high-detailed when talking about the religion of Wicca. He says that witchcraft is not used for harm, but for the good of one's self and others. I was also impressed how well he explained the Sabbats (the holy days of Wicca). About what happens on these days and why witches celebrate them. You well also find it interesting how he explains the Wiccan holiday Yule, the idea of the rebirth of the God. And how Christians adapted this holiday into their religion to make it Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ. See the similiarity of the two holidays? Read this book and find out more, because everyone should have the benefit of knowing the truth about Witchcraft.

This should be the first book on Wicca you read,

I had been curious about Wicca for a while before I had seen this book. I read a few other books about it before, but I wish I had seen this one first. It was the first book to explain clearly what Witchcraft is and is not. Cunningham's purpose is not to convince you that his faith is the "correct" one, but rather to show that Witchcraft is beautiful religion undeserving of its reputation of demonic associations. It's not what I would call a deep book, but it has many good uses.First, I would recommend it to anyone who is curious about the religion but knows little about it. Anyone who has an interest in religion, for example. Second, I would recommend it to give to a friend or family member, if you are Wiccan and they are interested in what you believe. It's short, sweet, and to the point, and they won't have to spend weeks reading it to understand what you believe. Third, I think it would be a great book as part of the required reading for a college course dealing with Wicca. Most college students have no idea what Wicca is, so this would be a nice intro book.

Telling a family member about your beliefs can be really hard. Slip this book under their pillow at night and you'll be set. Ok, it might be better to actually tell them what you are and what you believe and then give them the book--but either way, this is a great book to help a friend or family member become more informed about what you believe. Scott Cunningham delivers the basic info to help calm any sort of fears of midnight parties with Satan and presents Witchcraft as a nature-loving, positive religion that thousands and thousands of people are practicing everyday. From the basic tools, to religious days, to Deities, to folk magick, to initiation, Scott covers the necessary basics to help inform the reader about what Witchcraft is all about. A recommended book for all beginners and practitioners' friends and family who need something to ease that pesky chest pain.

Let the truth be known,
By Amethyst (Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Truth About Witchcraft (Paperback)
This is a 56 page booklet cleverly written to quickly uncover the truth about the nature-based religion of Wicca. Christianity's egotistical belief that they are the only true religion, was one of the reasons all the misconceptions about alternative religions began in the first place. Unlike more commonly socially acceptable religions, "Wicca is non-profit and non-political. It is not evangelical or contolling. It is not out to rule the world or convert the masses, take your money or try to force you to believe as its followers do". It is free-thinking and moral. Wicca does not believe it is right for everyone. It encourages you to research and learn it to be sure that it is right for you. It encourages individuality. So this is a great book to recommend to anyone who is intelligent enough and open minded enough to learn about something that they don't understand before they blindly pass judgement on it based on what "religious" people have lead them to believe.

I just want to say WOW!,
By Lunar (Destin, Fl) - See all my reviews

I found the book to give a wonderful, basic overview of witchcraft and wicca. It was not a "convert" type of book, but rather a "this is what it is" type. I, being a Christian, was taught many misconceptions of Paganism. I was taught it was Demonic and Satanic, but it is nothing of the sort. I found it was an Earth honoring religion. I learned many things from this book that I will carry with me. My best friend is Wiccan and I wanted to learn more about his beliefs. I found it to be very helpful and easy to follow.

A guide to one of the fastest growing religions in the world,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Truth About Witchcraft Today (Truth About Series) (Paperback)
Scott Cunningham takes you through the basics of Wicca, one of the fastest growing religions today. I found this book to be very helpful in educating friends and family so that they would know that Wicca and Satanism are *not* the same! And in the mass market form I think that every Wiccan or Pagan should have a copy on hand to loan out to people. I actually have two out on loan at the moment and should probably get a third! This book does not detail every tradition (what book could?) but gives a good overview of what Wicca and the other Neo-pagan religions are all about

don't just toss the book to someone and walk away...,

This is a really nice little book for a number of reasons. The first of those is very basic: it IS a little book. Few people uninterested in practicing Wicca would want to take the time to read a 600 page book about what it is/isn't. This book is short enough to read in a few hours of concentrated time. Another reason that this book is so good is that it doesn't tell everything. A book that went into great detail about Wicca would be easliy be resented for "preaching" or "trying to convert." There is not enough information provided for the book (or the author) to be accused of either of those. This leads to the reason that I only gave the book 4 out of 5 stars. You really can't leave someone alone with the book. I find that it will really raise as many questions as it answers. This could be good or bad. If the person reading it asks the questions, you can answer and probably help them to a much better understanding of Wicca. If they DON'T ask the questions however, it's entirely possible that they will put the book down more confused and in the dark than when they started. Essentially, it would have been a waste of their time. So by all means, pick this book up. It's a great addition to your Wicca library. But please remember that whoever you give it to to read wants not only to learn from the book, but to learn from YOU what you so love about Wicca.

Great Book for Beginners!,
This review is from: The Truth About Witchcraft (Paperback)
I have been interested in the craft for about 3 years and since then I've been using the internet to gather information because my parents didn't know. I told my mom and she was fine with it and I jsut recently told my dad and he still isn't too thrilled with it, so I'm always telling him things about the craft to persuede him it's not "evil". This book covers everything I've been trying to tell him and in the best way possible. It even told me knew things I didn't know. It clears up so many rumours and myths about witchcraft! I recommend you give it to someone who doesn't know anything or isn't too thrilled with it. It's my first witchcraft book and it is great!

A lot of information in such a little book,
By TotalEarthGirl "Kilroy" (Millville, NJ USA) - See all my reviews

If you ever had questions about Wicca, Magick, etc., this book answers just about all your questions. Scott Cunningham was a wonderful author and he constantly reminds the reader that this practice is not Satanism, dark & negative magic that most of society thinks of first. It is a book that one who practices this art can re-read and still get more from it. He explains the pentagram...NOT for satanic use. It represents the four elements (earth, air, fire & water) plus spirit (yours). For those who don't understand, they will after reading this little book written with so much understanding.

I am very glad to have read this book.,
This review is from: The Truth About Witchcraft (Paperback)
As a Christian, I am not practicing Witchcraft because I would like to be faithful to Jesus Christ. However, I do not want to make my decision on the basis of false accusations towards Witchcraft and Wicca, which have been made (unfortunately) by some fellow Christian brothers and sisters. I am sympathetic to their concern, but they should make their claims around the truth, not fictions..., should they? This book does not go deep into ritualistic details of Wicca, so it will not overwhelm non-Wiccans who are unfamiliar to the spirituality of the Wiccan world. In this sense, I think Scott Cunningham's The Truth about Witchcraft will be a good read for Christians who would like to understand what is and what is not Witchcraft. I am very glad to have read this book.
