Very funny but not worth $29 bucks, February 9, 2004
This review is from: Truth in Advertising and The Reel Truth (DVD)
5 stars for creative, 2 stars for value for your money. I was really expecting more. I've seen the snips from the DVD on the internet, and thought they were super funny. The DVD doesn't offer that much more to make it worth $29. It is about 20 minutes runtime - waste of money!!!!! I do think the Truth in Advertising short is incredibly creative and hysterical, but I would suggest watching the free mpg snips a few times and save your money.

Advertising Therapy, November 5, 2002
This review is from: Truth in Advertising and The Reel Truth (DVD)
Having been in advertising since 1996, this DVD is absolutely hillarious and undeniably true. Its brilliance is in its frankness and willingness to be more truthful than reality. You'll see what I mean when you watch it. For those who've seen maybe one or two scenes from email, this DVD is worth every penny since it offers the complete, hilarious work, in addition a film called the REEL TRUTH, which applies the same concept to the field of directing. For those watching this video and considering going into advertising, one thing to remember is that the truths presented apply to most professions to some degree. So don't let it discourage you. All in all, this film is brilliant and confronts all the frustrations the world of advertising has to offer. One thing to remember is that while all these frustrations are undeniably true so too is the power of the feeling of accomplishment when you see your work in print or on TV or hear it on the radio. Yes, advertising is frustrating and this film presents those frustrations brilliantly, but don't forget the joys and if you need a refresher read Hey Whipple Squeeze This by Luke Sullivan.

You've seen it for free. Buy it for keeps., November 25, 2005
This review is from: Truth in Advertising and The Reel Truth (DVD)
If you work in an advertising agency, you've probably got clips of these films virally through email. The full films aren't much longer, so you might feel cheated if you expect much more than you've already seen.
But it's worth owning the complete set of films, however short. The central conceit--that advertisers, their agencies, and the film companies that serve them are just as dishonest in their dealings with each other as they are with the consumer--rings utterly true.
If you don't work in advertising, the humour will seem obtuse. If you do, you'll get the jokes instantly. A real classic, and worth owning if you're in the business.
I look forward to sleeping with you...
