Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Theology for the Church in Renewal Most systematic theologies are long, detailed works of over one thousand pages, or even multiple volumes. Truth Aflame is a much briefer and more accessible systematic theology written from an evangelical Pentecostal/charismatic position. Truth Aflameis ideal for college students and busy pastors who want to be aware of the Pentecostal charismatic positions on various doctrines, but who do not wish to wade through pages and pages of analyses and rebuttals. While author Larry Hart does not ignore other theological interpretations, he does not write detailed apologies against other points of view to defend his position. In a writing style that is easy to follow, with a practical, pastoral flavor, Hart presents the structure of his systematic theology in a succinct, clear manner. The book includes both brief and detailed tables of contents.

I have studied under Larry Hart and recommend him both as a teacher and writer. I like the readability of this book. It is easy to understand and follow as well as is a smooth read. I have trenched through some of the larger works and find them a labor to read.

Hart is more grounded in Scripture than in philosophy or reason. You don't have to read a page of philosophical gymnastics to read a sentence of conclusion. It appears he attempts to synthesize his Baptist background with his Charismatic experience. I find it more to be a pendulum swing of one to the other. At least he is makes it clear from what position he is speaking. His sources are also well documented and annotated. I think this work is a good bridge between seminary and the pew.

I am now into my third year in Bible College and I have a number of theology books on my shelves, but this one takes the biscuit. It is a scholarly book without being written in unreadable and dry academic lingo. It is so readable that I sat down and read the first 134 pages in one sitting, word for word. Which is kind of unusual, seeing that this is not some thriller or moving novel!

What's more, it throws light on some scripture that I hadn't connected the dots with before. I am pretty sure the Holy Spirit was with the author throughout writing this book. The Divine Hand had to have played a part! It is so good I think every bible college student, pastor, cell group leader, in fact every Christian, should have one.

Desiring to better understand my Christian religion I purchased this book and found it better than other theology books. Dr. Hart's ability to translate complex theological issues into something that is understandable is helpful. I also enjoy how he connects modern day and historical church figures with various theological belief systems. The book is well written and would be enjoyed and benificial for those who are novices or those who are theological trained.

Larry Hart not only makes an effort to explain systematic theology in an easy o understand way, but his understanding of Scripture and Tradition is accurate and not influenced by the infections in academia to take a liberal, albeit incorrect, view of scripture. Hart is an excellent scholar and bible teacher...I highly reccomnd this volume....its the best of conservative and charismatic theology as one!

Very deep book on Theology. Author does an excellent job explaining the culture, context, and history behind what is written in the bible and why.
