YOU ARE ABOUT TO WITNESS A DYNASTY LIKE NO OTHER!,
By Troy (Baltimore, MD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Truth (Audio CD)
Let's get one thing clear. Roc-A-Fella is the top rap label right now. With Jay-Z dropping a classic album and Memphis Bleek dropping a good debut, it is Beanie Sigel's turn. A lot of people don't realize how nice this kid is on the mike. When you listen to the first song called "The Truth", you realize that this kid is blazin'. The next song wit' Bleek is tight as hell. "Raw and Uncut" featuring Jigga is tight too. The real tight joint on the album though is the underground hit "Mac Man". The song is brilliant. Beanie flows to a Pac Man beat, and uses classic names in video games to tell his story. His lyrics on this song are just ill. The next three songs are all good, but not as good as the one that follows. "Stop, Chill" is a slick song with an ill beat an tight lyrics. The rest of the album is tight too. When you listen to this album, you will realize that Beanie "Mac Man" Sigel has a bright future in this game. He's no Jay-Z, but I'll take him over Bleek. His debut is better than Bleek's. Also for anyone who doesn't have the bootleg version of Jay-Z Vol. 3, the classic song "Anything" is included on the album as a bonus track. It's a little out of place considering the dark depressing song right before it, plus Beanie isn't even on it. That makes it kind of strange that it's on there. Anyways, it's a dope song that should definitely have been released. Any Jay-Z fan should cop this because the beats are definitely reminiscent of Jay-Z's albums. This kid is nice, so if you like ill flows and tight beats that are not the norm, buy this joint.

Beanie Sigel - The Truth,
By Swaydo (Cincinnati, Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Truth (Audio CD)
Jay-Z may have just outdone himself with this rookie. Philly native Beanie Sigel (aka Beanie Mac aka Beans) sells his demo in stores entitled "The Truth". This is his freshman release after touring the mix tape circuit. Beanie's flow is absolutely untouchable (check absolutely any track he's ever appeared on!) and pours his heart and soul into each and every track. Beanie Sigel is to Jay-Z what Biggie (RIP) was to Puffy. Jay brings the 'bling bling' factor while Beanie is his thugged out equal. While the disk is a diamond among the hip-hop zirconia's, it does (as every release) have it's not so hot spots. The ever so annoying Mac-Man track , with it's sample from the video game (yes i said video game) Pac-Man, is only made tolerable by Beanie's colorful transformation of video game characters into thugz and hustlaz. THAT'S IT. What were you looking for more bad spots? The only other gripe i would have is on the track with Scarface 'Mac & Brad'. The track fades out right when Scarface starts heat things up a bit! The hands down, shining star of 'The Truth' is the tru life testament of Beanie's life "What Your Life Like". Just listen to it. That's all I have to say! Oh, and what the hell is Jay-Z's "Anything" track doing on Beanie's album? Lastly, mark my words, this will be the best release of the new millenium and it is a must have! WATCH OUT JAY-Z, THE STUDENT IS ABOUT TO BECOME THE TEACHER!

Beanie Sigel is the "TRUTH",
By

Whether or not Sigel or this album spits the "Truth" its forever inevitiable, but you can never deny his lyrical skills on the mic. Sigel has always been the more talented recruit from Roc-A-Fella. With one killer cut, ("Truth"), produced by Kanye West, Sigel shows why he's a premier artist in the Hip-Hop game. Although this album does have it's short comings like many Roc-A-Fella releases, but the one's that shoutout greatness makes it more worthwhile to purchase this release.

OVERRATED,
By A Customer
This review is from: Truth (Audio CD)
It's a decent offering for a mainstream release, but it doesn't offer anything new. Same lyrical content, same Jay-Z-souding beats, same Roc-a-Fella labelmates featured on the songs....same old same old. The Source gave it 4.5 mics out of 5, which is just ridiculous. 3 mics is more like it. But then again, The Source gave 4.5 mics to Black Rob's "Life Story" too, so I'm not surprised. Save your money and buy "Quality Control" by Jurassic 5. You won't be disappointed. Review by: PB Wolf

to prove that beanie has arrived on the scene, just take a listening to track #11. it's symphonic wonderings float like cavi smoke thru the whole song, and the bass hits harder than rock-a-fella has ever hit before. and when you look for something else, look no further than the truth. this cat is up for a grammy for real though!

Not quite as good as The Source makes out,

I got this album after seeing that it got four and a half stars in The Source. They compared it to Illmatic, Amerikkka's Most Wanted, etc. as a landmark debut. I don't think it measures up to Biggie's or Nas's debuts, but it's still got its moments and I don't regret purchasing it. The title track is strong, Everybody Wants To Be A Star is great, so is Who Won What. The Pac Man track is funny and innovative the first time, then it's just plain annoying. But it's a good CD overall. His style reminds me a little of Cube. The track with Eve someone said was weak, I think he's being too harsh. Get it if you like Dre, Cube, Kool G Rap, etc. Your mind won't be blown but it's good.

I tend to like rappers who actually talk about real life situations. Reality rappers. Folks such as Outkast, Scarface, Mobb Deep, Snoop, 2Pac, Clipse, Bone Thugs N Harmony, DMX and others more than normal rappers. I'm not from the suburbs; that means that the stuff these people talk about are not monotonous nor boring to me...it's the truth and you can't run from it by calling it cliché or `same ol same ol'. It's everyday, it's what happens in the hood. That's how it happens. So when a reality rapper comes through and totally rips the scene, I raise my eyebrow. Beanie Sigel did just that on Jay-Z's `Do It Again' and continues to do so on his debut album.Beanie Sigel's rhyme scheme is tight, and like his patna Freeway, you might not be feeling his style at all. But I do...I feel it...I understand it. "Most Nights ate sleep for dinner" That's reality for some and it was for him. I know what that's like. When someone like that makes it out and you felt their pain before it's easier to appreciate the type of music they bring to the table. Or you hear the song `What Ya Life Like' and you will REALIZE that this guy is authentic. He's the real deal. The emotion shown on `Ride 4 My" when he nearly loses his breath ridin for his homies near the end of the track, is nearly unparalleled in the game. And his collaboration with the realest rapper alive Scarface is a straight up instant classic. Sporting an incredible beat, these two rappers proceed to rip it up cipher style...what an amazing track. "Stop, Chill", The Truth and Raw & Uncut are more tight tracks. Beanie Sigel is one of those rappers who has lived what he raps about and that's real. His style is unlike any other in the game currently and his debut was a treat for real hip hop fans. Recommended.

The Truth indeed!,
By Nuisance "the rebel" (Miami) - See all my reviews

There is two songs that stop this album from being a classic. Mac Man is garbage(the beat sounds like Pac Man on acid) and Playa feat Amil and Jay-z(failed club banger). Other than that this was a good debut from the Philadephia native. The Truth(his first single) starts off the album as Beanie rips it over a dope beat provided by Kanye. Memphis Bleek makes a decent appearance on Who Want What but Beanie stole the show. Scarface and Beanie are a superb match up and it shows in Mack And Brad). Jay-z makes another appearance on Raw & Uncut(decent) and his solo joint Anything(cool). Beanie also does well when he makes songs of substance like Remember Them Days(feat Eve), What Ya Life Like(which samples Hard Rain) and Everybody Wanna Be A Star(self-explanatory track). Beanie also knows when to switch up the flow(something alot of rappers have problems doing nowadays) on Stop, Chill. What A Thug About is basically explaining what a thug does. Ride 4 My and Die are pretty good tracks too. Bottom Line: The Truth is a promising debut for Beanie Sigel who is now a force to be reckoned with on the mic. The rhymes were good, the production was solid and the guest appearances were not shabby themselves. Beanie's flow is like vintage wine. It gets better with time. Listen to him now. He is a beast on the mic! Standout tracks: THE TRUTH, WHO WANT WHAT, REMEMBER THEM DAYS, MAC AND BRAD, WHAT YA LIFE LIKE, WHAT A THUG ABOUT and EVERYBODY WANNA BE A STAR.
