1.0 out of 5 stars Way Too Predictable
I'm sorry, I really do like to say something nice about a book, but this book doesn't have anything redeeming about it, in my opinion.

The plot was ridiculously predictable, the characters way too cliché, and the romance/lust interactions were over-steeped to the point of making this reading experience one unsatisfying cup of trite tea.

Kathleen Palmer is a GBI dedicated to her job in rural Georgia surrounded by corrupt cops. When she investigates the shooting of two teenage boys she is determined to find the truth, no matter the consequences. What she doesn't intent is to fall for Jason Harding a depute in the same police squad that she believes killed the two boys. Is Jason what he seems or something more? What Kathleen knows for sure is that her heart believes in him.

Truth and Consequences is a great read. Although the writing could use a bit more polish it is great in most instances. The plot is captivating if a little choppy in some places. The characters are brought to life beautifully.

This book is great for anyone who likes mysteries and non corny romances.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great read if you are a Nora Roberts fan!, October 29, 2008

I love to read Nora Roberts, Mary Higgins Clark, etc. I love the Romance/Mystery genre. This book fits well into that genre. It was a quick but intelligent read. I really enjoyed the characters and was pulled into the story. I felt that the plot was believable. I could not put this book down. This book was very descriptive without being overly wordy. My only reason for 4 stars and not 5- The author spent so much time building up to the end of the story and then ended it a little abruptly. I liked the ending but just felt it could have been drawn out a little better. If you are a Nora Roberts fan, you will really enjoy this book! I will definitely seek out other books by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting & Romantic!!!, October 13, 2008
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat! Ms. Winfree has done a wonderful job with recreating small-town characters...so much so, that you feel as if you are right there with them. The book is full of action, suspense, and a great romatic couple.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's a commercial for Ivory soap in disguise., April 12, 2011

I thought it was good yet predictable. Kathleen was more in lust than worried about her job. The author mentions Ivory soap by name so many times I started to wonder if they sponsored the book. Pretty bad when you are trying to get lost in the action and you get pulled out because she can't just say "she smelled of soap".... we have to discuss that it was Ivory (which he knows from all the other soaps?????) and then Jason has to buy it too?

4.0 out of 5 stars Not the best of her books, but still a very good read, October 23, 2011

I don't think this book deserves quite the low rating it has on Amazon. It's a solid, well-written romantic suspense that starts a little slowly, but builds into something exciting and memorable.

Winfree's books build and build. Her construction of the suspense plot is very smart - there aren't holes in the mystery, and her in-depth knowledge of police procedure grounds the book in reality. The relationship in this one was strong, growing as the book went on. Though this hero and heroine aren't the most captivating she has written, their relationship worked for me.

Boo to the author, though, for using the term `dumb blonde' more than once. I lose respect for a book and its creator the second I see them discriminating like that!

Linda Winfree has been around a few years, but is a new discovery for me. Though this is not her strongest book (try What Mattered Most first), I'd definitely recommend her writing. This one kicks off the Hearts of the South series, which is a great collection of realistic, emotional romantic suspense books, and I'd say it's worth giving a go.

You can read later books without reading this one first, and from book three on, this series is absolutely fantastic.

2.0 out of 5 stars Predictable, November 13, 2008
This book could have gone a lot differently. It seemed predictable and boring. There was romance, sex, and a little action. The story line was too easy to follow from the first chapter. I knew in the first chapter that the guy gets the girl and blah blah blah....

2.0 out of 5 stars Predictable, April 17, 2011

This book followed a formula from start to finish: beautiful people are attracted to each other, misunderstandings and other obstacles threaten their romance, and everything works out in the end. We've all heard the story before, but here the author presented it with no subtlety whatsoever. Her descriptions of the attraction between the two main characters were heavy-handed, right from the first few pages of the book. I've certainly read worse romance novels, but it's unlikely I'll ever pull this one out to read a second time or take the time to read the rest of the books in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Predictable but satisfying, April 8, 2011

While I can agree the plot-line was predictable, I enjoyed the book. I thought the characters were realistic, and I was drawn into the family drama and loyalty struggles Jason faced. Kathleen was spunky and I could imagine the friendship she shared with her partner Altee. The relationship Jason had with his "family" from the Army was heart-warming. Being raised as a Navy brat, I know friendships made while living in one place for the short-term, can have long-term benefits. I thought the author did a very good job making the characters seem like someone you know--even the sleazy characters. I would read other books by this author. (Besides, who can complain? This was a free book.)
