5.0 out of 5 stars Sounds cool, Looks cool, IS COOL!, October 21, 2011
This review is from: Truth and Dare: One Year of Dynamic Devotions for Girls (Paperback)
I been reading your new devo - it not only looks cool - it IS cool! I love how each devotional isn't long and laborious... but just a little sound byte of info to think on for the day with succinct parallels to help the reader relate! Nicely done, I can't wait to share it with my 12 yr old twins and their 12 year old step-sister! They will definitely be intrigued by the edgy style/illustrations and layout, it's just the thing for their tweenage sensibilities. Even as an adult I can relate to the concepts that you are introducing for the tween age range. Also, I think that I especially appreciate the brevity, because that is about all I can manage before one of the kiddos needs my attention! LOL I was just going to preview it before passing it along, but I may just cruise through the whole thing first, it is just that good!

I received this book and when I opened it, I want to use it myself, even if it is for a young girl. Each page is a question page where it gives the Bible reference so that the Bible can be used to find answers then there is a place where it can be written. To be it is a Bible diary for everyday use. I think the young girl will love this and it will get them to read the Bible each day. If they get into reading it every day while they are young then it will be cared throughout their lives.

The front of the book is so colorful and looks just like a teen, then the pages are in black and white, very nice. I just don't know how to say enought about this book. I have a teen age granddaughter and I know she will enjoy this book "if I don't use it myself".

Thanks so much to B and B Media Group for sending me this book for my review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great devotional option for Tween Girls, January 10, 2012
By
This review is from: Truth and Dare: One Year of Dynamic Devotions for Girls (Paperback)
My daughter hungers for a deeper relationship with God, and this book has provided a mechanism for her to seek Him--on her own. And she loves the devotions.

This book has a great lay-out. At the beginning of each day's devotion, there is one verse for the girls to read. Then there's a short story or illustration to go with it. That's followed by a Dare: a way to apply the Truth to their thoughts that day and then a triple-dog dare that helps girls bring what they've learned down to their everyday lives. At the end of the page there's a short journaling session. The book reads like they're sitting down with a big sister or older friend, and gleaning from her faith and experience. My daughter (11) is doing this solely on her own and because she wants to. I love that!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a Hit!, January 9, 2012
This review is from: Truth and Dare: One Year of Dynamic Devotions for Girls (Paperback)
Truth and Dare: One Year of Dynamic Devotions for Girls, by Ann Margret Hovsepian is a wonderful year long devotion and worship tool for young girls

The cover is enticing for the age group, making them want to open it and see what is inside. The daily reading and message are short, plus a journaling portion, then there is the "dare" part of each lesson. A triple dare each day to further explore God's Word and put God's Word in action in her everyday life in fun and creative ways.

My 10 year old daughter loves this book! She said after the first day that "it make me want to read ahead and do more". She does these devotion lessons without me having to tell her. She has really enjoyed completing the "dares".

I wish the cover didn't say "for ages 9-12" because my 16 year old was very interested in it. I'd love to see something similar for older girls.

Thanks so much to B and B Media Group for sending me this book for my review.

4.0 out of 5 stars 52 Weeks of Good Advice, December 15, 2011

This review is from: Truth and Dare: One Year of Dynamic Devotions for Girls (Paperback)
Truth or Dare by Ann-Margaret Hovsepian, subtitled One Year of Dynamic Devotions for Girls, is a multi-faceted, Bible- based plan for the preteen girl. Its format combines Bible readings, journaling and suggestions for putting her faith into action.

Broken into weekly segments, it opens each week with a short inspirational thought, prayer, or Bible verse to set the tone. From there it moves into a specific segment for each day of the week. Each day opens with a suggested Bible reading and a short thought such as: "Just reading the Bible isn't enough." Following that is the TRUTH, a three of four paragraph commentary on the reading and its implications.

Following the TRUTH, as its name implies, is a DARE. Like the Truth it begins with a short thought such as: "Don't admire the riches of others," followed by a three comments and/or practices to deepen a youngster's faith. Completing the page is a section for Journaling, which encourages the used to look inside themselves and track their progress.

Every weekend there's a two page wrap-up on a single subject with more journaling space. Truth or Dare is designed to encourage tween girls to discover how exciting God's word can be. Not only does it encourage regular Bible reading, but in makes it real to them and helps them learn how to apply it to daily life. With 52 weeks of good advice, Truth or Dare can inspire a young girl to boldly live out her faith.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid and Cool in EVERY way, December 15, 2011
This review is from: Truth and Dare: One Year of Dynamic Devotions for Girls (Paperback)
Ann-Margret Hovespian's Truth & Dare: One Year of Dynamic Devotions for Girls. Targeting girls ages 9 to 12, Truth & Dare encourages tween girls to discover how exciting God's Word can be. They will see it make a difference in their daily lives and experience the blessings that come from doing it and not just hearing it. Daily challenges (dares) based on Scripture (truth) will provide opportunities for them to make their faith come alive as they learn to serve others, build character and make a difference.

Scripture will be transformed from something learned to something lived.

What I appreciated most about this devotional is that it goes beyond the typical "God has a wonderful plan for your life" and how "you will discover and fulfill that when you grow up". Although it is designed with the tween age group in mind, these devotionals help these girls understand how they can know God more intimately NOW and how they can put into practice TODAY the things they learn in His Word.

I'm so thankful for Ms Hovsepian's work. I think far too often we make the dangerous assumption that our kids have to be at a certain point in their lives to "really understand" the things of God. Hovsepian has not made this assumption and has provided parents and grandparents with an amazing way to help their "tweenagers" tender their hearts toward God.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's a Good One, December 12, 2011
This review is from: Truth and Dare: One Year of Dynamic Devotions for Girls (Paperback)
My daughter and I went through a few of the devotions together and checked out the features of the book. She loved that there were parts that looked like the diary she has been bugging me to buy her. And she liked the idea of writing in the book itself.

I liked it because of the life lessons, and scripture that is so applicable to girls today. It is a different world from when I was a kid (I can't believe I am admitting something that sounds so "old"). This book helps me to bridge the gap that I sometimes find between my daughter and I.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dynamic Devotional, December 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Truth and Dare: One Year of Dynamic Devotions for Girls (Paperback)
Truth and Dare, by Ann-Margret Hovsepian, is a fantastic, dynamic, one-year devotional for nine to twelve-year-old girls! Ann-Margret inspires, encourages, speaks truth, and dares girls to shine their light for Jesus at home and anywhere they happen to be. She challenges them to change where change is needed.

The devotional is filled with personal stories, puzzles, games, and triple-dog dares. It starts with a specific title, followed by Truth, God's Word. There's a section for `Got More Time?' and journaling space to identify and apply what God has taught them during their devotional. Ann-Margret tackles the easy, light aspects of a girl's life such as love, joy, thankfulness, etc., as well as the tougher subjects she will encounter as she matures, such as a deep faith in God and Jesus, prayer, forgiveness, dealing with family members, friendships, modesty, dating, sex, marriage, and even marital infidelity.

The devotional is set up for daily Monday through Friday separate devotions, and then a separate weekend edition. The variety of subjects and activities breaks the boredom of a regular devotional. The cover is absolutely gorgeous, girl-oriented, and relevant for today!

Girls need all the help they can get to grow up into Christ-centered women. I would love to see mother/daughter sharing as much as possible to bridge their relationship, giving an opportunity for prayer time for important issues.

Things in a girl's life change so much during this age period, and it's great to see someone tackle the issues and challenge them to live a Godly life.

As innovative and practical as this devotional is, I would love to see a new one year after year, even for the different age groups! Would have loved one for myself when I was this age.

This book was provided by Audra Jennings of The B&B Media Group, Inc., in exchange for my honest review. No monetary compensation was received.

5.0 out of 5 stars great devotional book for tween girls, December 6, 2011
By
Joan N. "bookwomanJoan" (Whidbey Island, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Truth and Dare: One Year of Dynamic Devotions for Girls (Paperback)
Have you ever played Truth or Dare? The game: when your turn comes around, you choose whether to tell the truth (not knowing the question) or take a dare (not knowing what the challenge might be). You might have to answer an embarrassing personal question or do something gross.

But knowing the truth and being daring is God's way to awesome experiences.

Hovsepian's book is designed for girls 9 to 12. Young girls can easily neglect Bible reading, but this book encourages tween girls to discover how exciting God's Word is. Within Truth & Dare are hundreds of truths from God's Word and hundreds of "dares."

Each day's devotion begins with Bible verses the reader will find in the Bible and read. At the end of the day's reading is the dare, a challenge to apply the Bible passage to life. It might be the dare to list five bad habits God wants to change. It might be something like asking God to give the courage to not hide a sin when tempted to do so. Girls will see that God's Word can become real to them as they learn how to apply it to their lives.

Girls may think being a Christian is boring. This devotional will help them see that being a Christian is exciting and full of blessing. It will help young girls see that they can make an impact on the world.

Hovsepian covers lots of topics from friendship to worshiping God to peer pressure. She has left plenty of space for girls to write their thoughts and responses to her questions and dares for each weekday.

The weekend reading might be a little quiz. It might be a story with space to write a response. Or it might be a short biography of someone who is living a daring Christian life.

The oversize paperback has a contemporary look throughout and would be attractive, I think, to pre-teen girls. I wish there had been something like this when I was that age.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for the purpose of this review.
