5.0 out of 5 stars A great gift for any age
The Truth is written from the perspective of a young girl who lived decades ago - before cell phones, before the Internet and other technological advances. Yet it has timeless appeal.

As you'll experience from reading this fictitious diary, the hopes, dreams and fears of today's preteens have not changed much from those of their grandmothers...

I have to tell you - after reading all the 5 star reviews, I thought 'I need to order this for my 12 year old' WRONG !! I gave her this book, and a short time after she came to me very upset and distraught, wondering why I would give her such trash to read ! I began to look at the book thoroughly, and have to agree. She said, 'who thinks like this ?' I don't know of any girls in that age category who are gaga over guys, obsessed with having a boy friend, etc. I guess if you don't mind your child reading things such as (p.40 for instance) "I still watch Paul all the time. I am still sure this is love. I imagine us together, swimming naked in a pool and then hugging and kissing...'

Sorry but not all girls in this age category care to read dumbed down books. Totally inappropriate. My daughter was really upset and wants to send this book back to amazon for a refund, I have to agree. Don't believe all the hype here - there are PLENTY of high quality books that deal with growing up. Save your money, and do your research before buying this trash.

2.0 out of 5 stars 10 year old girls are smarter than this book, June 18, 2009
This review is from: The Truth: I'm a Girl, I'm Smart and I Know Everything (Paperback)
I bought this book based on uniformly glowing reviews. Both I and my 10 year old daughter find the writing very stilted - an adult trying to write like a 10 year old which, in this case, is very off-putting and artificial. While the topics of the diary entries are certainly those which would interest a girl of this age, each one ends with some supposed pearl of wisdom that is, in most cases, facile and insulting even to the 10 year olds. One particularly silly entry that comes to mind is the one where the writer comments on adults who swear as a serious threat to "making the world a beautiful place." My 10 year old really laughed at that. In fairness, other entries are somewhat better but overall the book is a disappointment. Ten year old girls are more intelligent than this.

I love this book. I just wish that this was available when I was 10-12 years old but reading it today captured the girl within.
Worth every cent and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful and Thought Provoking, November 10, 2008
This review is from: The Truth: I'm a Girl, I'm Smart and I Know Everything (Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and recommend it to both mothers and daughters. As I was reading, I was reminded both of what I thought about as a pre-teen girl but also about my daughter was like at that time in her life. Sometimes parents think that they have an open and honest relationship with their children but reading this book made me think that parents do not always give their children a chance to tell them what THEY are thinking. This book also made me a little nostalgic for the times when diaries and journals were important vehicles for self-expression.

4.0 out of 5 stars Glowing Inside with Truth, December 16, 2009
This review is from: The Truth: I'm a Girl, I'm Smart and I Know Everything (Paperback)
I liked the book "The Truth". It's a cute book and I enjoyed reading the secret diary of a ten year old girl. At times I chuckled out loud remembering that the author's chosen words describing the girls feelings were my feelings exactly. So what makes this a winning book is the universal connection of putting feelings into words that all girls and grown up girls can relate to. I believe the author did a superb job in this being her main focus. In today's world, girls are in need of knowing how much they are loved through all the emotional and physical changes they endure. For all the princesses out there, this is a great book for self awareness, self acceptance and good self esteem. The Truth (I'm a girl, I'm smart and I know everything) is a light, easy read. **** stars. The only thing I didn't like about the book was the small size of the font and words typed above dotted lines made it more difficult to read for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Healing Your 10-Year Old Self, November 12, 2009
This review is from: The Truth: I'm a Girl, I'm Smart and I Know Everything (Paperback)
"This book is deeply touching. I went right into my 9-11 year old self awareness, and recognized a tinge of her feelings in my recent womanhood life. I have wondered about "her." Who was feeling those feelings? She healed as I read the pages.`The Truth' by Dr. Barbara Holstein loves the young girl, which is all the 10-11 year old really needs. Every woman who has ever been 9 to 11 could read this book and heal that part of her life in 112 pages." Barbara J. 5.0 out of 5 stars from a school teacher's view, June 23, 2009

This review is from: The Truth: I'm a Girl, I'm Smart and I Know Everything (Paperback)
As a teacher I was looking for a book that addressed many issues girls ages 9 to 12 may incur. This book, "The Truth, I'm a girl, I'm smart and I know everything" certainly opens up communication between a mother and her daughter, and in doing so it also bridges the gap between other adults, as well.
Written in a diary format style, it is easy for me to remember how very important it was as a young girl growing up to have kept my confidential diary diligently jotting down inner-most thoughts, concerns, and secrets. It was that special place to be able to express myself.
Most noteworthy of all, it brings emphasis to how a girl viewed her world in being able to deal with her dreams, struggles, fears and disappointments.
I am looking forward to implementing this easy read book into my classroom in order to impress upon my students how to gain some very necessary coping skills to carry with them in their lives.

What a great book for tweens, teens and parents struggling with the issues of this "rollercoaster" time of life.
It was written in such a user friendly....."Hey, I can relate to this" attitude.
This book is one that they can keep in their bookbag or by their nightstand. It has insight, wisdom and wit.

Truly worth the investment for all the young women in your life!
