Boston's super mc Ed O. G returns with "Truth Hurts" and gives us some of that flavor hip-hop has been missing. Ed O.G. is back, doing it with this one. Check out "Saying Something" & "What U Know".

Rugged With a Cause,
By Chris G (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews

Botson MC Edo.G always approaches the mic with a purpose. With delivery smooth, hooks simple and straightforward, the G infiltrates our mental with warnings and reflections, sometimes suggestions on everything from gettin' cash, love and relationships, childeren, and what it takes to remain true to the art form Edo obviously loves, Hip-Hop. With production by DJ Spinna, Pete Rock, Nottz, and the track one banger by DJ Premier, The Truth Hurts comes off both hard and melodic, sometimes mellow, but never weak. The production and lyrics do seem run-of-the-mill at times, even half-baked to say the least, but give props to Edo.G for using no B.S. skits as fillers, making for a complete album in the Boston format. As a whole this album reminds me of O.C.'s classic yet underrated LP, Word...Life. Another spot to hear Edo.G in prime lyrical action is the Beats and Lyrics compilation on a track titled "I Feel You", produced by DJ EQ. Enjoy. Peace.

Top Quality Hip Hop,

First let me say that the reviews by "tim", "otg", and "fatha" are moronic at best. I've had this album for, I believe over 3 years now and it still gets regular rotation. Mind you i have over 500 cd's to choose from in my collection. This is grass roots hiphop... beats (bangers and jazzy mellow joints), lyrics are crazy..see the other review on here with the quoted verse... and just look at the friggin album cover...Ed O G is no chicken head/laffy taffy rapper. Maybe from a producers standpoint approximately 3 of the beats are monotonous.. but still remind u of the golden age of hip hop...simple loops and raw introspective, street thug and street philosopher rolled into one album. ED O G is one of the only hip hop prophets left!!!

You should have 10 stars, this guy is a lyrical genius. For those giving this album 1-3 stars, I understand your opinion, but maybe give it another listen too. I find things everyday now different and more exciting than the last. When I first bought this album, I kinda thought the same thing, "oh this isn't really that good, I wish it was better!" So I put it down for 6 months and listened to other things. A week ago I picked it back up again, and never realised how good this album really was. Super Production, awesome beats, amazing vocabulary and wordplay, and all around phenominal album. To say it is worth buying, is an understatement, read the reviews that mention the track titles, and then listen to it. It will most definitely change your life.

Ed O.G....Talk About Finding A Diamond in The Rough!!,

This review is from: Truth Hurts (Audio CD)
First, let me be honest about something. I'm a very close-mindedindividual when it comes to my Hip-Hop, and I only listen to certain artists. I don't like commercial music, and I don't watch videos or listen to the radio. I'm into lyrisict like Nas, Common, Rass Kass, Biggie, Pac, Black Starr, anyone who's great. I never did hear of Ed O.G. until about a year or two ago, even though he's been around for over a decade. When my friend played one of Ed's singles, from his now "classic" The Truth Hurts, I went bananas...the song is laced with Premo's proudction and timeless lyrics "Alcohol and weed is my vices Wow!!I'm a M.C. myself, and this man's lyrical ability inspires

You can't miss with EDO's new album!,

With all the crap that gets pushed out by the majors these days ... cookie cutter rap with annoying generic beats .... it's a breath of fresh air to finally hear EDO.G back on the scene with the raw beats, honest lyrics and ill concepts. If you like Gangstarr, Talib Kweli, The Roots & Pete Rock ... than you need to cop this record.

EDO.G Is No Pioneer,
By A Customer
This review is from: Truth Hurts (Audio CD)
EDO.G is more than a pioneer. Being called a pioneer in hip hop is almost an insult. When people hear "pioneer" they think the artist is no longer vital. Well, that ain't the case with EDO.G. EDO.G is still making music that speaks to people. From his instrospective "Too Much To Live Fo'" to his somber "Sayin' Somethin'" (produced by DJ Premier)to his hypnotic duet with Black Though (from the Roots) on "Nothing Ventured" to his raw-as-#$%* joint "Work For It" with GURU. EDO.G can still rip, and should not be called a pioneer; he should be called an innovator.
