The album "Truth" was a major disappointment,
By A Customer
This review is from: Truth (Audio CD)
The only song I had heard from this album was "If I could" which I immediatly loved. So I gambled and bought the entire CD-- and it wasn't cheap. Besides "If I Could" there is not a single other song I like, and I doubt this will even grow on me. Buying the single is worth it-- not the enture CD. The lyrics are so bland and at least when the Backstreet Boys sing songs where the chorus is repeated over and over it sounds good. Joee has the great looks, but needs some work on his songs. He definitly has potential.

Not freestyle, not dance??,
By A Customer
This review is from: Truth (Audio CD)
I am totally disappointed with this album. Add Joee to the list of freestyle/dance artist who have distanced themselves from the genre. Truth is a departure from Joee's previous freestyle/dance album Just A Taste which I think was one of the greatist freestyle/dance albums of the 90's. Even with Joee's exceptionally soulful voice, I can't get a groove with this album. None of the tracks are even good dance songs. Since I thought in the beginning that this might not be an all freestyle album, I at least expected some good dance tunes. Angel is the only track that would sound decent in a club but it is backed up with that really tired and played out euro disco beat. Although I was disappointed with this album I hope it will be a success and turn the U.S. onto Joee helping to put him on the map as one dance musics greatist singers.

Solid effort but I was expecting more...,

This artist, Joee, has a very soulful voice. Argueably one of the better ones out on the pop market. After buying the single "Do You Right", and finding it was a solid pop song (though cannot compare to such efforts as the Backstreet Boys' "Larger Than Life"), and hearing the three CD-track snippets, I decided to take a gamble and buy the CD. After all, I had heard "Angel" and "Feel It In The Air", and both were very good euro/Hi-NRG songs, and "If I Could" and "Hard To Say (Radio Remix)" were good pop efforts. However, I was slightly disappointed. My favorite track remains "Angel", a solid Hi-NRG number with hints of the progressive/Sash! sound, and Joee's voice takes it to the next level. "Feel It In The Air", however, has been remixed into a very hardcore freestyle song, that, while Joee's voice does an admirable job, just doesn't fit here. Had it been included on the CD, it should have been left in its original euro (or remixed euro) format. "One Last Day" is another pop song in the vein of "If I Could" and "Almost Suicide (Reunified Mix)" is another Hi-NRG song, though not quite as moving as "Angel". "Backdoor" is the better of the two ballads (the other being "Don't Let Me Down"). Cleverly placed female backing vocals could make this an MTV hit with the right video. "Sweet Divine" is Joee's attempt at hip-hop, with an anonymous rapper providing average rhyming skills. It seems the ingredients for a good song are there, but they just don't gel. "Holdin' On" is a freestyle track with some computer-vocal effects. Good for dancing, but not much else. The CD ends with the Truthful Mix of "Do You Right", which is basically a tired house music re-tread of the first track. My advice is to buy this CD for the outstanding tracks "Angel", "If I Could", "Hard To Say (Radio Remix)", "One Last Day" and "Almost Suicide (Reunified Mix)". You'll go crazy over them. The other tracks on the CD, however, do not nearly have the polished feel as the aforementioned tracks do, and that is the reason this CD does not get the full five stars.

This is Joee's 2nd full-length album. His first one was titled Intonation w/Joee "just a taste". This album "truth" was released June 1998 in Canada. He is a really good singer. The best song on this album is "angel" and also the last few songs which were included in his first album.

You want dance? You got it.,

Most CD's will have one or two good songs and the rest of the album is usually pretty bad. Luckily, Joee is steering clear of that. In the last couple of years, the Toronto native has put out some really good songs that were always played on radio stations, and eventually, each were put as a single, but sold nevertheless. With Truth, he basically gathered the best of his DANCE songs of the last couple of years. I say DANCE songs because Joee used to be HUGE in the Freestyle genre. But once he realized that there wasn't much of a market in freestyle, it didn't take much time before he jumped to Euro and Pop-Dance. He's made his prescence within the mainstream dance scene with his single, 'Arriba,' and now he is slowly shifting to "light Trance" with his new hit, 'I Don't Believe You (Club Mix).' Although some of his songs have made some pretty high waves, none have been as big as "Angel" (Original, Club Mix, and Euromix Versions)." At the time, it was the biggest song especially here because Joee wrote that song in memory of his younger cousin who died at the age of 17 in a car crash. It was after this song that more and more people caught onto Joee. Other hits on Truth that were also put on popular compilations include 'Feel It In The Air,' 'If I Could,' 'Do You Right,' and 'Almost Suicide.' His lyrics are simple, but that's what makes his songs fun to listen to. A great voice with catchy beats are too much to resist! Definitely recommended.

Positive energy disk with great grooves. The track "Angel" is the best. Hopefully Joee will catch on in the states soon.

JOEE IS DA BOMB,
By A Customer
This review is from: Truth (Audio CD)
JOEE TRUTH (Popular) The best made-in-Canada dance record of the last 10 years? I think so! First well known for his club-happy remake of "Died In My Arms Tonight", singer/songwriter/producer Joee is one of Canada's (and the music industry's!) best kept secrets. The entire record is extremely well produced. Standout tracks include the very funky "Sweet Divine", the mid-tempo R&B pop of "Backdoor", and the seamless "Don't Let Me Down" which might have made even a singer like Luther proud. If you passed this one by upon its original release, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy . . . and buy one for that special someone!

I've had this CD since May of 1998. It's a great CD, I've met Joee a ton of times he's a sweet guy and a very talented singer. Most people in the USA have never heard of Joee. I do recommend this CD and I have seen it in the stores in the USA so i have no idea what this 1/1/2000 buisness is. Either way I recommend the CD

THE BEST,
By A Customer
This review is from: Truth (Audio CD)
Hey! This cd is the best! You can dance with it, drive with it, sleep with it,...... I know Joee has so much to offer the music industry! Not only does he sing the songs you hear on his album, but he also writes them. And don't think I mean just the lyrics! No guys, he does it all! WOW, huh! You don't see that much anymore, do ya! With each and every song he does, it keeps getting better and better. Ya he did amazing with the "dance songs" he did a couple years ago, but his new style is happening for him, not to mention happening for me! I am sure we will continue hearing great hits from JOEE and I can not wait until this guy shows the entire world what he's got!
