Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Truth & Salvage Company boast four lead singer/songwriters and six members in total, each with a unique story to tell. The result is genuine American Rock N Roll with a timeless sound and interwoven lyrical storytelling. Their palette stretches from rock to country to alternative, and the 12 songs on this debut showcase four-part harmonies and their own playful wit. It is music that could only happen in America much like a great songbook.

Prior to their conception, the acclaimed members performed and collaborated with many other well-known and talented acts such as The Moldy Peaches, Ben Folds Five, Jack Johnson, The Squirrel Nut Zippers, as well as members of My Morning Jacket. A staggered exodus in 2005 brought all six musicians to the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles, where they first performed together during casual late-night jam sessions. It was on that very stage that Truth & Salvage Co. was born.

It was, in fact, 'the sincerity of their song writing and passionate performance' that attracted The Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson to produce their debut album. With Robinson, the members of Truth & Salvage Co. were pushed out of their comfort zone, transforming great songs into pure brilliance.

Truth & Salvage Co. toured extensively in 2009 as the opening band for The Black Crowes and in 2010 they will tour with The Avett Brothers. In addition, the band also holds regular sold-out residencies at the Hotel Café. As a result of this extensive touring, they have a loyal following.

Review

The sincerity of their song writing and their passionate performance were the things that attracted me to their project. --Chris Robinson, The Black Crowes

They sound as if they were each cut from one piece of cloth, the pair of scissors never stopping to pause, just snipping out the profile and adding all of the flare and trimmings as they go. --Daytrotter

Don't bank on Truth & Salvage Co. to remain an unknown quantity for long. The delivery is infectious, and the emotions ring true, and those are the qualities that can't be grafted forcibly onto any artist. As suggested above, it's all about the chemistry. And these guys got plenty of that to go round. --Fred Mills, Blurt

It will change the way you look at fun music.

Hope they release another album soon, as they have a lot of stuff that isn't on this one, but this one is worth every penny.

What a great album, a great selection of music from these talented musicians. This album brings back summer time memories of listening to such great bands as the Eagles, Bad Company, Black Crowes and many others. Wonderful lyrics and the perfect mix of music behind it. Welcome to La is the perfect song for driving down the 101 watching the waves break on the beach. Call Back has to be the best sing along song ever.. My kids are singing it all the time.

My wife and I first heard T&SCo. open for the Black Crowes last year and we thought they showed promise. We heard them again earlier this year with the songs from their new album in the setlist and we were blown away, as were all our friends at the show (everybody went home and ordered the album).

The difference between thousands of bar bands and a band that can make it big is songwriting, and T&SCo. definately has that. You know those songs you can't get out of your head? This album is full of them, no way you won't find yourself singing "Hail Hail" to yourself, or maybe "See Her" or "Call Back" and so on. I don't know what to call this kind of music anymore--alt.country, roots/America--whatever name it deserves the T&SCo. version is well-crafted, passionate and entertaining. Their live show is as good as this album, they understand how to pace a show and it's clear they're having fun onstage. And they can go from a country-tinged ballad dripping steel-guitar to a soaring psychedelic jam without missing a beat. The members of the band are also nice guys, happy to meet fans after a show and talk music and sign some autographs--they might call L.A. home these days but there's no "Hollywood" in them, they radiate authenticity. This album and tickets to see this terrific band live both come highly recommended.

Truth & Salvage - they don't make them like this anymore. Great music made from some of the most talented musicians you'll see live. Superb first album with harmonies and lyrics you can't get out of your head. This is a must buy for right now or even the next 25+ years because it's timeless. Track them down on their concert tour. I promise you won't be disappointed.

What a great album. I hear The Outlaws, Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, The Beatles, The Allmans, Outlaw Country, and so many other influences, but this is not a throwback or a rehash. The band is totally original and honest. The songs - just one gem after another. I'm not a big fan of Chris Robinson, but his production job here is first rate. The funny thing is - while listening to this album I think to myself that if this album had come out in 1977 it would have been HUGE. Never the less it is still a great album.

This first cd coming from these obviously, heavily seasoned and sophisticated artists is--in
2 words--hard hitting!! These six young men have been there, on the road, on the stage, and on the edge. That's what they write from, and what they sing about. Their sound is new, but at the same time Renaissance--drawing from what we have all recognized as Class music, and rocked to--and adding their own. The high rings of chords and voices, and the mellow harmonies, are obvious as they play "into each other", and for each other! This is not your usual single or double writer offering. This is four singer-songwriters, but you can bet that all six are there as they tear over the roads from gig to gig, or plop in each motel on the way. And talk about it. And write about it... The quality of writing and the playing and singing comes from interpolated talent of the "band". The quality of each sound comes from the hearing and mixing drive of producer Chris Robinson and UK guru Paul Stacy, not to leave out Angelus et al who readily recognize a major talent. The recommendation is that everybody listen, rock a bit, and pass on a new and great find.

The first four songs of the album are worth the price of admission. In fact, any one of these tracks alone would have made the album worth buying. Track 1, Hail Hail, is a catchy southern rocker with a very singable chorus and great lyrics. Track 2, Call Back, is even more catchy and a little more pop-country sounding but in a good way. You can almost hear it following the over-played Lover Lover on country radio, which would normally be a bad thing, but Truth & Salvage Co. have enough integrity to make even a radio-friednly song unique. Track 3, Welcome to LA mixes a smooth Carribean intro with a gritty roadhouse sound which is refreshingly good. Track 4, Heart Like a Wheel, would fit nicely on any of Shoort Jenning's first three albums. Track 5, See Her is a great song, but the intro and guitar breaks sound too much like Ramblin' Man by the Allman Bros. to elevate it to the level of the first four tracks. The other seven tracks are good, but not nearly as catchy or memorable as the first four. Still, overall I give the album five stars and recommend it to anyone who likes country, rock, jam, etc.

I saw this band with The Black Crowes last year, they left quite an impression with me. They closed their set with Pure Mountain Angel, which gave me chills.

This CD is exceptionally strong from start (Hail, Hail) to finish (Pure Mountain Angel), and there are great songs and gems along the way, Call Back, 101, See Her, Old Piano, "Brother, Sons, and Daughters" are some of the ones that I particularly enjoy.

Although it sounds nothing like them, and its stands alone in it's own genius, to me, Pure Mountain Angel is so brilliant that it is destined to have a life like one of those classic FM songs from the 70's, Dream On, Stairway To Heaven, and Free Bird, a concert staple that becomes a part of music lore. It's THAT good.

The undeniable fact that this gem of a song comes delivered with 11 more precious melodies that shine as brilliantly makes this music, The Truth And Salvage Company, the best CD and best new band to have been released on the music scene in years.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! Long Live Truth & Salvage!
