5.0 out of 5 stars How It All Started
Even the most avid fan needs a road map to the X-Files (I know I do!). I have been a fan since the very first episode and I own all the episode guides, all seasons on video tape, all seasons on DVD and various other books and magazines....so, it is safe to say that I like the X-Files. 3.0 out of 5 stars The Truth is Out There...For Young and New X-Philes
As a virtually new X-Phile (lover of the X), I found that this book gave me the necessary edge to to compete with old Philes in chatrooms and conversations. The book gives important facts and interesting biographies, but for the person wanting gossip and tabloids about the actors and actresses involved with the making of The X-Files, this book is not for you. This book is...

This is definitely a book for the X-Files fan! It has all of season 1 and 2 with a detailed synopsis for each episode...including important dialogue quotes. It has great photographs also to accompany the stories. You could easily understand what's going on just from reading this book....it's also good as reference when something happens in later episodes that you didn't understand, to go back and find out who, why and what.

It also has all of the awards the show had won during those seasons. Well worth the money and makes a good collectible item!

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth it, May 9, 2000

This review is from: The Truth Is Out There (The Official Guide to the X-Files, Vol. 1) (Paperback)
As a 11 year old child, now very interested in the x files, I needed a way to learn of all the things I had missed in the first couple of seasons without straining by budget. Then I found this. With detailed walkthroughs of the first three season's episodes, and biographies of the actors/ actresses, as well as the characters, I found this book as the thing I wanted.

This review is from: The Truth Is Out There (The Official Guide to the X-Files, Vol. 1) (Paperback)
It is a very clear and excellent book for everybody to read. I particularly enjoy the episode guide part in this book. It depicts clearly the cast, the plot, and some comment about how to shoot these episodes. Also, in these episode guides, there are many good picutres which give readers visual sastisfation. If you like The X Files show, please don't miss this book. It's really fantastic!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but pretty vague., July 16, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Truth Is Out There (The Official Guide to the X-Files, Vol. 1) (Paperback)
This was a pretty good book, although it did not delve into the episodes as much as I would have liked. It was little more than an outline of the first and second season episodes, but I really enjoyed the interesting bits of info surrounding the characters, the actors, the writers, and the behind-the-scenes action.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb reference book for the X-Files, June 22, 2011
By
Laura (Minneapolis, MN United States) - See all my reviews
This is an outstanding guide to the first three seasons of the X-Files. In addition to a 2-3 page episode guide packed with air dates, guest stars, writers, producers, trivia, and loads of inside information, the book also features profiles of some of the main actors and actresses featured in the show, as well as character dossiers. I can't say enough positive about this book. It's a "must own" for any serious Phile, and one that I find myself referring to all the time. So glad I picked up a copy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beauty but limitation, March 29, 2011

TastyBabySyndrome "Matthew Lewis, author of M... ("Daddy Dagon's Daycare" - Proud Sponsor of the Little Tendril Baseball Team, USA) - See all my reviews
When you go back and check out books like these, make certain the material is what you are looking for. Personally, I picked this up some time ago and, for what it is supposed to cover, it really made an impact. That said, it is only a synopsis for the first two seasons of the X-Files and there are some really big books that cover a lot of ground when it comes to the show. The thing is that the price goes up on things like that, too, and you really might just want a framework of how things began and how things were playing out.

According to Chris Carter, there is a theme that traverses three seasons of the X-Files, and that theme becomes really transparent here. You notice a lot of what he is aiming for - and wil later call "Abduction" in the X-File Mythos discs - and that can really use a companion like this. Those are not bad for a fan of the series to pick up, either, and going back and looking at those always looks good here. If you want to add to that then look up the book by Simon, who talks about the science behind the series. That means you gleam a lot of information from a little bit of reading, and you see the reality and the notion thats et everything up.

Basically, this is one of those things that lurks in fandom. If you are just wathcing and want to know about all the seasons, you might not want this. I think it is amazingly done but there are some equally amazing sets, and some come in around the 30 to 40 range. Still, this gets a nice 5/5 for what it is, sharing the joy of two seasons beautifully.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good episode guide for seasons 1 and 2., July 13, 2008
By
H. Corbett (Nova Scotia, CANADA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a good guide to the first two seasons of The X-Files. Each episode contains a synopsis, complete cast list (with the exception of one episode "Excelsius Dei"), writer credits, director credits, and two or three black and white photos from each episode. It also includes the first two episodes from season 3 "The Blessing Way" and "Paper Clip." There are other chapters on behind the scenes, conception and evolution of the series, making The X-Files, profiles on actors David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Mitch Pileggi, William B. Davis, Steven Williams, Nicholas Lea, Bruce Harwood, Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund and Jerry Hardin. The end of the book contains dossiers for the characters and lists from the first two seasons the episodes in which they appear. There are other brief chapters on ratings and reviews and quite a few black and white photos. Worth having if your an X-Files fan.
