I want to be a trucker. After 21 years in the military and 7 more in law enforcement, I'm going to pursue another honorable career and hope I can do it justice. But, this book sucks!
It was either poorly edited or not edited at all. It gives me hope that I too can write a book and this publisher will kick it out there for me. Obviously, a gift to write is not required. There are numerous grammer errors, inappropriate font changes, boring and illogical paragraphs - and it proved to be a horrible read. This is a case of somebody who thinks he has something worth saying, but isn't able to say it in any way interesting or intelligible. The author, Zeller, bounces around between audiences in 1st and 3rd person; inserts too many short stories that have nothing or little to do with trucking; and questions his intelligence frequently by stating, "I'm not a moron" (leading me to think he's in denial). Zeller needs to stay with trucking and leave the writing alone.

The Truth About Trucking,
By Adv00cate "Adv00cate" (N. America) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Truth about Trucking (Paperback)
Trucker Steve Zellers buys a manual typewriter and starts banging on the keys. The end result is a summary of about twenty years of endless roadtrips across the USA. Partly magical and partly visceral, Steve talks about his life on the road as if he was sitting next to you in a truck stop.
There have been of late a number of these "truth about trucking" books popping up from time to time. Steve Zellers holds nothing back. If you want to learn more about how one man spent a good chuck of his life on the road, this book tells you the good, bad and ugly. While the form and grammar may be a little disjointed at times, that in itself adds to artistic effect. Roll on trucker Steve!

Author Shares His Heart and Soul,
By Allen Smith (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Truth about Trucking (Paperback)
I'd like to commend the author for sharing his heartfelt stories with many. I share a book with the same title, "The Truth About Trucking", but mine is about the industry scams and how to succeed in trucking.
This is not a plug, just a fact. As far as those being critical of "how it was written", I would like to just say, "look beyond the editing" and appreciate the sincerity. He's a "fellow trucker" who has experienced a lot of the hardships that many do, and Mr Zellars has shared his trucking life with all who want to read about it. He's got a lot of heart. Allen Smith

The World needs to know the truth,
By
This review is from: The Truth about Trucking (Paperback)
I read this book and it was awesome. I now have a better understanding of what the truckers go through everyday. I appreciate each and every one of them. When I try to pass a truck I know where not to be. My adopted mom was married to a trucker he was never home and she stood by his side for eternity. My grandpa was a trucker he lived through the teamsters, bombs were put in his backyard, he had to unload and load his own truck. Anyway, I think everybody would benefit from reading this book. Wifes, girlfriends, mothers, fathers, sisters & brothers of truckers the whole world. As a country that could not survive without these men and women bringing us everything we have READ THIS BOOK YOU WON'T REGRET IT.

Pathetic,
By
This review is from: The Truth about Trucking (Paperback)
If anyone is interested in becoming a truck driver, reading this pathetically written book will no doubt discourage many. There doesn't seem to be anything positive about being a truck driver here. The author is basically writing to himself about his adventures and has no clue as to how to share the positives and realities on driving a rig. The title 'The Truth About Trucking' is also very misleading as he never describes the pros on living the life of being a professional truck driver. The author should stick to what he does best, driving trucks, and leave writing to people who know how to write. Don't waste your time and money on this book - there are other books out there that will deliver the info you're looking for, like 'Driving a Big Truck or How I Became a Professional Tourist'.

It's like riding shotgun with Trucker Steve,

Steve Zellars offers us a no-holds-barred look into his life in the trucking industry. I'm normally sensitive to glitches in grammar and spelling, but not in Steve's case. Why? Because his style is conversational, down-to-earth and from the heart. I've been looking into trucking as an alternative career in this depressed economy of ours and have been interested in talking to a trucker about the real nitty-gritty of the job. Steve Zellars offers that conversation in a style that had me imagining I was in the cab and getting the low down from a seasoned veteran. I don't think I'm cut out for the profession, but I truly respect guys like Steve who do this thankless job day in and day out for weeks and months at a time. I also appreciate the effort he has made to share his story with the rest of us. Keep the shiny side up, Trucker Steve!
