Quitting coffee isn't just for people with adrenal fatigue. This book, while it contains scientific information, is not difficult to understand. The author is very systematic in her explanations and honestly, she makes perfect sense! With the growing epidemic of adrenal fatigue, obesity, fibrocystic breast disease, and heart disease, there must be a common denominator. The book discusses issues such as the effect of coffee on Alzheimers and Parkinsons diseases. After reading this book along with a few others on this subject, I can't help but think that the problem must be with coffee and caffeinated products. It argues a very strong case for minimizing or cutting out entirely your coffee intake. I have had problems when drinking coffee myself, and I noticed weight loss when I stopped drinking it. I have seen a few holistic professionals that advised I stop drinking coffee for my health and they were right as I noticed the changes when I did stop. I was always under the impression that coffee actually helped people to lose weight, but apparently it is the opposite. This I have now come to believe. Plus it's known to cause insomnia in some people if drank late in the day. I highly recommend this book and guarantee it will be an eyeopener.

"The jolt we get from coffee is actually a stress hormone rush." ~ pg. 20

My husband says that everything you eat will eventually kill you. It seems this is true because each day a new food is bad for you. I'm however of the opinion that some things will kill you faster than others. Coffee is apparently one of the drinks you should avoid at all costs or at least consume infrequently. Two cups a day is the recommended limit!

What if you knew that a substance could cause fibrocystic breast disease, birth defects, blindness, heart disease, stomach disorders, insomnia, pancreatic cancer, mood swings, skin lesions, myocardial infarction, physiological disturbances, urinary incontinence, high blood pressure, peptic ulcers, headaches and gastrointestinal disorders? Would you still ingest that substance? That substance is "coffee."

"The Truth About Coffee" should be required reading for anyone concerned about their health. If you are hooked on coffee you need to read this book immediately. Your life depends on it! I've read other books on caffeine addiction and have stopped drinking coffee on a regular basis. I now think of it as a treat to enjoy once in a while. I came to that conclusion because I had some of the symptoms this book talks about. Mostly I had incredible headaches that were only relieved by more coffee.

One thing I found interesting is that it seems the safest coffee is from 7-Eleven. It has the least amount of "acrylamide," a toxic chemical in coffee formed during the roasting process.

If you are totally addicted to coffee, don't give up because there are ways to wean yourself off your daily habit without experiencing so many withdrawal symptoms. This book will show you the way to better health in a matter of days. I encourage you to read this book and to give a copy to everyone you know.

The Truth About Coffee is a great title for a great informative book. I'm totally a coffee lover and for a person who drinks it 3 to 4 times a day, I felt like I should want to be educated on the caffeine, saturated liquid. I read it within 2 hours and surprisingly I enjoyed it. The reason I used the word "surprisingly" is because I must admit that I have NEVER read non-fiction books however, this one was short and sweet. The author did an awesome job with her research, and I also agree with some of her POV's throughout the book. 4 STRONG stars!

This was a very interesting read, and one I'll recommend to all coffee drinkers. From the historical context to the modern testing results, there's a lot to chew on here.

There's a fair amount of intriguing information to pull from The Truth About Coffee, regardless of your initial view on the subject. From the explanation of how pesticides and the roasting process affect the body via their relationship to antioxidants, to the evidence of Stillbirth links in pregnant women, there is a well-catalogued litany of interesting fact-finding throughout.

All of that being said, I'm hesitant to become personally preachy about such a topic, as I try my best to not be the purest voice of reason for anyone or anything. Each of us has to determine our own course in life. For a doctor, an author, or anyone to dictate what we should or should not be doing is somewhat obscuring on some level. Answers are only as finite as the humans who concoct them, until science catches up with concern. There are pros and cons being unveiled on a yearly basis with many things affecting the human body, and I would be a fool to proclaim this book as the "end all" source of information on the subject of caffeine and coffee. It struck me while reading this that some of the longest living people on record mention coffee as a staple part of their diet. Everything is relative.

I will say, The Truth About Coffee made me think about my own habits. I know I enjoy a few cups of coffee a day, but I've never been one to increase my "dosage" beyond that amount, which is, based on this reading, still a fairly high level of caffeine consumption. I will work to curb that usage to a single cup, and, eventually, I may substitute something less damaging entirely.
