5.0 out of 5 stars A refreshing and inspirational look into TRUTH August 10, 2012
Format:Paperback
Long time reader of Castles in the Air blog and subscriber of Nina Yau's letter.ly, I attended Nina's book launch located in Chicago's Liars club (ironically) and purchased Nina's first book in print. As a fan of her writing I was sure I'd enjoy it regardless, but found myself even more pleasantly surprised that both long time readers of her work as well as new readers (such as my younger sister who has read little more than a few blog posts on a plane going to said launch party), all find her latest work very inspirational, easily understood and an instant necessity of one's library. As some may title Nina's way of life as "radical minimalist" or ultra-minimalist, her book follow suit; her chapters are short and easily consumed. But this book is also much longer than many of her previous ebooks, both in word count and depth of value. Using said minimized approach, Nina shares her facts, opinions and realizations about TRUTH in a way that helps us dig deeper into `the heart of what matters' - without any unwanted literary distraction. It can be picked up and read on a plane ride from Chicago to LA, but the truths shared and the questions asked make this a book surely to be read at least ten times - each with its own set of inspirational reflection and different answers. Simple explanations of Nina's take on the meaning and purpose of truth, supported with carefully selected inspirational quotes, help set the stage for meditative thought. Then questions asked help cut deep through our daily conditioning and societal blinders in hopes to help the reader determine their own level of truth, and what truth seeking can do to better the core essence of our lives. I hope this is the first of many printed works from Nina.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life's little truths are often overlooked August 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Nina draws on both eastern and western philosophy, and I suspect also draws from many of her own observations. Truth covers a very specific range of topics that are in essence the parts of life that are often on autopilot. It's the things we don't think about every day, but really should. It's the things that would improve our life greatly if we took the time to consider them.

Truth is jam packed with wisdom. Nina has a knack for cutting to the core of the topic. Each chapter is only a couple pages long, and in those few short pages, Nina delivers an idea and supports it in a way that makes it sound like it should be common sense.

This is a book that requires you to pay attention. I found myself re-reading paragraphs to get their full impact. There is no fluff here; it's all hard hitting content. I really appreciate a book like this that gets to the point without adding unnecessary banter, and a book like Truth would not be as powerful otherwise.

I really enjoyed reading Truth. It took me about an hour to read the entire book, and this is one of the few books I'll likely re-read to allow some of the information to sink in more deeply.

5.0 out of 5 stars For truth-seekers, by a real truth-seeker. July 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
"Truth is, I didn't go down in flames. I am the flame. I was always the fire. Truth just helped spark it into who I am today: totally and completely me."

Nina Yau is a truth-seeker. And this book is for men and women who consider themselves to be genuine truth-seekers, too: think "truth" that's less about the pursuit of flashy excellence or back-patting perfection or being "something" in the eyes of others, and far more for the sake of experiencing life authentically, wholly, and simply as one's true self.

Laced throughout the book are lessons from schools of thought practiced in the author's personal life -- some that traditional Western readers should find truly mind-opening. This exploration of truth spans spiritualities like Zen Buddhism, touches Japanese martial arts, cites various poses and foundations of yoga, cites ancient terminology and definitions from Tibetan Sanskrit and Chinese Mandarin, and so on.

I found myself learning more about spiritualities that I have even personally explored in the past; these are enriching to experience and complement Nina's stories, tales and lessons from her life.

I believe you'll find TRUTH to be thorough, very well rounded, and a testament to not only one incredible individual's pursuit and realization of her own truth, but a testament to human nature's relentless exploration of truth amongst ourselves, individually; and amongst each other, as a human whole.

So, go on, get your TRUTH on :)
