About the Author

J. Richard Knapp was born in the Pacific Northwest in a small rural community beside the banks of the great Snake River in the fall of 1949. It was one of those communities where everyone knew each other and often worked side by side picking fruit to be sent by train to New York City, Chicago, or even Boston. Everyone was either picking fruit or packaging it to be sent by train somewhere in America.

The stories told by Knapp often reflect his experiences as a young boy in this small community exploring the banks of the large river and his community with his closest friends. His adventurous nature and creative mind often led to great tales of the river and fantasies enjoyed by all.

J. Richard Knapp graduated from high school in 1967. His accomplishments as an athlete earned him a scholarship to college, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree, Master of Arts Degree and a pre-doctorate. He has spent the past thirty two years as a writer, elementary teacher, administrator, graduate school instructor and recognized leader in education. Knapp has served as a member of the International Symposium on Education with leaders from Great Britain, Japan, Canada, China, Germany, Australia and the United States of America. Additionally, he has lobbied for schools and youth both in Congress and in his home state of Oregon for over a decade.

J. Richard Knapp lives with his wife of over 30 years in a small community along the banks of the beautiful Umpqua River.

He continues to share his stories with children everywhere and tells them about his adventures along the banks of the great Snake River.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excitement and Intrigue!, June 1, 2010
This review is from: Truth's Lair - Perils of the Dead Man's Diary (Paperback)
What a great book! I could not put it down...I HAD to find out what would happen with Bailey and her team. "Truth's Lair - Perils of the Dead Man's Diary" is full of adventure, mystery, and suspense. J. Richard Knapp brings a unique story to the table and keeps your interest long after you finish...leaving you eagerly awaiting the sequel! I appreciate that Mr. Knapp was able to tell such an exciting story and keep high interest without being age inappropriate. Finding suitable reading material for my 530 5th and 6th graders is always a challenge, so when a book meets these levels, I must recommend it. There wasn't any adult content in this book that would be questionable on a public school library shelf. The author even touched on some great learning opportunitites - from historical fiction to scientific...or is it sci-fi? Only by getting rapt up into Bailey's world will the reader understand what is going on...with twists right up until the last page.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truth's Lair, May 23, 2010
This review is from: Truth's Lair - Perils of the Dead Man's Diary (Paperback)
An engaging, well-developed plot, even if the characters aren't sure how the pieces of the puzzle fit together, the reader gains a strong impression that the author does! The story includes a fun cast of characters under diverse settings. Knapp is able to paint a picture of the land, the feel of a horse running free beneath you, the heartbreak of losing those you love, and the camaraderie of friendship. In spite of the technological aspect of this book the character Matthew Sanders hangs on - his legacy stretches across the story and is very compelling.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Cliffhanger!, April 28, 2010
This review is from: Truth's Lair - Perils of the Dead Man's Diary (Paperback)
Truth's Lair is one of those books you can't put down; there is no good place to stop! The main characters are very likable- some even lovable- and pull you into the story. This book crosses age boundaries and, though it is aimed at young adults, it is very engaging for younger and older readers. Go ahead, you can fall in love with Bailey too!
