5.0 out of 5 stars Sososososooooo good, July 28, 2011

This is the best music I've heard since I started listening to music. And that was a while ago. And I listened to lots and lots of music since then. None of it was as good as this music.

5.0 out of 5 stars sweet sunshine, September 2, 2009
This review is from: Try Brother (MP3 Download)
this album will not likely fit the tastes of your average mainstream music consumer--that's exactly what makes the LP so rich. i've listened to this sequence of songs over 20 times since these gents so kindly offered them as a free d/l on their website earlier this year--that is sometime after their umpteen hours of desert-landscape-inspired production became a collection of records that would flavor, ever-so-mellifluously, my '09 summer evenings.

{do not listen to this work if you do not appreciate musicianship. this compilation is no more pop than The Bends by Radiohead, yet no less so than Parachutes by Coldplay}

just as well, the soothing harmonies and catchy verses will keep you singing along `til 38:25 should you only indulge the casual listener's layers of entertainment--those just beneath the surface of these often intricate compositions.

while the weather is still warm in the remaining months of this year:

* get into a vehicle

* proceed to open all its windows

* put yourself and Try Brother in motion

* delicately drink each track in as the air rushes around and the sun serves to catalyze this beautiful new genre for you

--these chaps bring their talents to the stage as well--

5.0 out of 5 stars fun, quirky album!, September 1, 2009
By
This review is from: Try Brother (MP3 Download)
This new album from Midwestern kids Capybara is plain ol' fun -- just like all the crazy videos I've seen of their giant rodent namesake: [...]

Try Brother seems best described as modern folk-rock, plus a healthy dose of pop sensibility. Think Sufjan Stevens, Fleet Foxes -- catchy tunes, playful lyrics, lots of harmonization and lilting melodies. A hint of banjo, mandolin, loads of xylophones. I'm in love with the whole album, but I'll admit that I'm especially partial to "Birthday Song for Bridgegirl" and "San Francisco, 1906." Definitely a great disc for a long drive in the country -- or through the desert of New Mexico, which is where the album was recorded. Can't recommend it enough! Enjoy!
