The amount of talent in this band is quite amazing. I am not talking just about the fantastic songs, but the placement of the instruments. There are no glaring out of place instruments, which really points towards at least an understanding on how to make a very good psychedelic recording, not really accomplished with any regularity since Pink Floyd.

Some songs that I feel need to be pointed out:

Waiting for a smile. This is a very good song... and the lyrics are written so well.. the music takes you on a good ride. Enjoy!

YOU. This song has a very nice slide guitar staggering around in the background...and it has to be the most subtle use of a slide I have ever heard. Very nice.

Side By Side. This is my favorite song on the CD. I can't really say why, but the acoustic opening... and the build up and trim down really remind me, in a way, of music that just isn't made anymore... of course PINK hasn't made any music in over ten years, but this really could fit neatly in any collection of Pink Floyd fans. I think it is just that great.

I have two CD's of this group, (this one and World Through My Eyes) and both of them are solid. There is NOT one weak song on any of the recordings. This really is outstanding when you think of the music that is out there on the scene today.

I recommend this band to anyone who might like Pink Floyd, and I also recommend this band to anyone who likes a great floaty sound that has strong instrumentalization. Any fan of Progressive rock will love this recording.

Having come across RPWL as a band influenced by Floyd and other notible bands, this CD is everything one could hope for. This bands years as a Pink Flod cover band really come through in their music without tarnishing the ground they are breaking on their own. This is the first CD in a long time that was pure pleasure from the start. Every member is truely performing at a a high level. It is wonderfull to hear talented musicians playing in the genre defined by bands like Floyd, Rush, Porcupine Tree and the like.
I will agree, the lead singer very much has a David Gilmour quality to his vocals. The overall sound to the album is quite mello at times, but also has nice bursts of energy as well. The boys will get caught in a groove but the lift you around with unexpected chord changes and great layered vocal harmony.
If you are someone who is looking to add to your collection of quality progressive rock, this is a must have.

First off, this band is indeed very talented.
Second, whoever said the vocalist sounds like Roger Waters has obviously NEVER heard him!!! The vocalist does sound at times A LITTLE like David Gilmour but to me he sounds more like a cross between Gilmour, John Wetton and Greg Lake (both from their early King Crimson days).
The music is culled from many different bands....(traces of) old Pink Floyd, mellow shades of 1970's King Crimson, early to mid-70's Genesis (especially the second song Waiting For A Smile), and 70's Camel.
I do hope they stick together because these guys have the potential to do fantastic things.

As bands like Pink Floyd slide into retirement, it's refreshing to hear someone continue and expand on the sound and feel PF blessed us with for so many years. RPWL takes the best of Gilmour and CO and marries it with Radiohead, Porcupine Tree and the Beatles and creates beautiful uplifting music. I can't wait to get the opportunity to see them perform live.

Be sure to listento this one in your car, on your PC, home stereo and whatever format you can. Each different format gives you a new perspective on their sound.... all great!!!

This is an album my prog hating wife liked on her first listen. These guys write impressive melody and the music is very passionate. Great prog and great pop at the same time.

Let it be known that Rpwl started as a Pink Floyd cover band and then did some recordings under the name Violent District. The first Rpwl cd was very Floyd like but original. Trying to Kiss the Sun is the second cd by the band and it finds the band finding their direction nicely. The songs range from acoustic prog to spacey melodic guitar leads and the voice is a bit reminicient of Roger Waters. The Floyd influences on this album are from the 80's more acoustic based Floyd period. This is a great album and even though influenced by PFloyd, are not a copy band and this album marks the great future of the band!!

It's a shame that great bands who don't fit what today's music has sunk to doesn't get radio play. This is a very talented band who plays very provacative music, music that just doesn't fit into any one mold. They are very much like latter day Porcupine Tree, and that is a good thing. The music is enjoyable; you can just sit back and let it sink into you. Few bands nowadays have that ability, and even fewer that most people have even heard of. The title track is probably the weakest song, but even it is excellent. Waiting for a Smile could very well be a Waters/Gilmour song; it's very hypnotic and in the same vein as a lot of Pink Floyd songs. To pigeonhole this band as a Floyd clone, though, is unfair to them. They put out some very original stuff, that while might sound like Waters on vocals, the music itself is very different, particularly the third track. I couldn't imagine Floyd trying to play it. Not many people will read this review because the band is so obscure, but for those who are enlightened and not brainwashed by today's radio, this is a fantastic band that deserves success, although I kind of hope they don't find it because success seems to spoil a lot of promising bands. Anyway, this cd is worth every penny spent on it. Enjoy it while you can.

I picked up this disc after having bought RPWL's second release ("World Through My Eyes). TTKTS is not as strong a realse as WTME, but that's minor criticism. Often times a new band's sophmore outing doesn't match up to their first release. Not the case here. Both are great additions to my collection. TTKTS is not quite as coherent a release as WTME, but I recommend either disc (actually both) to any fan of prog rock. I hope they release more music soon!

A great album from cover to cover. Rock and roll with some progressive tendencies. Trace elements of Pink Floyd, Marillion, Alan Parson's Project, Beatles. An album I have listened to again and again since I got it.
