Not THAT bad,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Tsubasa Character Guide (Paperback)
I suppose if you just like reading the stories and have no other interest, I guess this book isn't your pal. But, if you're intrested in learning more about how this story was out together, or if you're intrested in how the pros do it all, this is a pretty handy tool. Even if you weren't intrested in any of this, it's still pretty cool to look at anyway. It's unreasonable to give one or two stars just because it doesn't have any of the actual volumes in it. Because, I mean, HELLO obviously because it's a 'character guide' you're not going to expect any of that, no?
So, overall, it's worth four stars (humor me, peoples).

A Great Little Guide for an Awesome Manga Series! (IMHO),

This review is from: Tsubasa Character Guide (Paperback)
I've flipped through this fan-service guide a few times and I find something new to look at each time I do. By now I've pretty much covered the whole thing and really thought it was quite cute. Put out by the Shonen Magazine Editorial Department it is a bit like the Clamp No Kiseki, with a little more information in a more manga-style format as opposed to the magazine/art book type. There are a lot of fun tidbits other than just a guide to the characters. There is a fan gallery which I thought was great (I wish I could draw half as well as a lot of these budding artists!), an advice column run by Fai (who may not be the best person in the world to give advice!), a guide to Kurogane's opinion on other characters strengths, a short manga vignette about winking and poll results of fans favorite characters, scenes, lines and such.
In the front of the book are a few full color panels of the Tsubasa crew. I particularly love the one of Fai, Syaoran and Kurogane with their respective kudan, muy awesome!! The only thing I didn't really like was the tease about the Tsubasa goods, some of which were giveaways you can't get anymore. Why show them off if they're unattainable? I WANT A MOKONA MUG, yes, I do! Overall this is a nice little addition to keep side by side along with the manga series on the shelf.

I hate to say it but I was sadly unimpressed with the Tsubasa Character Guide. I had been considering buying it and happened to flip through it at a store. The book seems confusing; like a jumble of random pictures and useless information. If you've been reading the series you don't really need this book. There are some nice character design sketches to look at but it doesn't make it worth buying.

I own all 28 books and all the dvds. This guide.. while as a devoted fan I just had to own.. is pretty pointless. Nothing at all what I expected after getting the xxxolic guide which filled in the gaps and had all of this amazing eye popping bonus material. This book is mainly stupid polls (I don't care how many people voted sakura as an ideal friend and I'm sure neither do you..). If you're going to get this as a collector who just needs to own it then sure but don't expect to spend more than a minute flipping through it. Its such a yawn. The only purpose it serves is as a display. The inside is worthless and looks ike it was all just mushed together on a deadline.. :( I'm so disappointed..

Not worth the money,

Gotta agree with the previous reviewer. As long as you've read the manga, this book provides no information about the stories or characters that you don't already know. It does have a "fan section", but I'm not terribly interested in that sort of thing. There is no new short story, as the Amazon description erroneously claims. Instead, there are some sketchy layout pages from a story that appeared very early in the manga.
This book might be useful for someone who hasn't already been reading the series and wants to catch up quickly. Those are the only folks I'd recommend it to. Well, them and the collectors who have the "completist gene."

Absolutely pointless,

Other than extra artwork and the ridiculous reader polls conducted in Japan, this character guide was useless and had not at all amusing. There was no new information with regards to any of the characters and the bonus manga was also short and had nothing to do with the storyline. The Tsubasa story so far still has a manageable cast of characters and really does not need a guide unless it offers up more interesting tidbits as well as the history of a character.
