The Long Road of Tsubasa,
By
This review is from: Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, Volume 2 (Paperback)
Even though it has been quite a few months since I have read Tsubasa, I totally disagree with what the other reviewers have written. Yes, Clamp does focus on cameos with characters from past manga that they have written. Yes, Clamp does focus a tremendous amount of time on the character's fighting techniques. But, if these pieces of the manga were left out, the story would not tie together effectively.
The major part of the story is the characters traveling to different worlds and fighting to get back Sakura's feathers that make up her memories. In the meantime, the group will meet people from everyone's past, but these people will be different from the people in their own world. This was the case when Syaoran saw Sakura's brother in another world. Cases such as these keep the reader on his/her toes as to what will happen next. Another major part of the story is the scars and pain that everyone carries with them. Syaoran and Sakura's relationship is an example of this. When Syraoran is forced to realize that Sakura, the one he loves the most, will never remember their childhood together, it is a pain that someone can feel empathy for. When readers are exposed to these two driving forces of Clamp storyline, they cannot help but be drawn to it.

Getting More Understandable and Deeper,
By Lynn Ellingwood "The ESOL Teacher" (Webster, NY United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, Volume 2 (Paperback)
I was very confused by the first volume and still am but the second volume tells me more about the story and I feel more comfortable about it. Sakura has lost her memory and Syaoran must travel to different worlds to get the memory back. Yuko, the witch from XXXHolic is there too.

Del Rey Could've Done it Better,
By
This review is from: Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, Volume 2 (Paperback)
This review specifically is for the second volume in the series. The overall series would rate a higher score.
I wish Del Rey were publishing these volumes closer together. Failing that, they should be considerate of people's fading memories and provide us with a page on "the story so far". That's not the only reason this volume isn't rated higher, though. The first volume gave glimpses into the different cultures of the leads, and showed familiar CLAMP characters in their alternate universe guises. This second volume, by contrast, doesn't introduce anyone old in a new light. I initially thought Primela was Ruby Moon, but that doesn't seem to be the case. So, that was a bit disappointing. Also, the shounen-ness of the story really came to the fore this time. It seemed to concentrate much more on the method of battle used to regain Sakura's memory than the actual cause for the battle itself. Still, there were nice moments, particularly at the end, and Fai is completely adorable. I'll continue to follow this series, but I'd like to see more familiar faces in the future, and more personal stuff/background about the new characters that have been introduced.

One Clamp manga is enough,
This review is from: Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, Volume 2 (Paperback)
If you read a ton of clamp, the storylines become annoyingly similar after awhile. I decided to give Tsubasa a shot because I enjoyed Cardcaptor Sakura so much. I was very surprised that the storyline, though similar to CCS, was a NEW story! But then, much to my disappointment, characters from all of Clamp's other mangas were referenced to in almost every scene. I enjoy the story, I really do, but it irritates me how Clamp is using Tsubasa as an advertisement for their other mangas. The story is cluttered up with cameos and similar scenes. I took a chance and am generally happy, but if you haven't read Clamp before (and only if you haven't) you will enjoy this manga. However, I have found, that one Clamp manga in your collection is plenty as the stories merge, so choose carefully which series you will buy. Ciao!
PS don't read the other reviews of the other volumes if you want the manga to be a surprise. Those reviewers don't care that they are spoiling the entire series!
