More About the Author

Clamp, stylized as CLAMP, is an all-female Japanese manga artist group that formed in the mid 1980s. Many of the group's manga series are often adapted into anime after release. It consists of their leader Nanase Ohkawa, who provides much of the storyline and screenplay for all their works and adaptations of those works respectively, and three artists whose roles shift for each series: Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi. Almost 100 million Clamp tankōbon copies have been sold worldwide as of October 2007.

5.0 out of 5 stars A mother's love, February 5, 2008
By
Kellyannl (Bronx, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, Vol. 16 (Paperback)
In xxxHOLIc volume 9, Yuko warned Watanuki to brace himself for very bad news regarding the Tsubasa gang. This is where we find out what that bad news is in the darkest, most powerful volume of Tsubasa so far.

First off, we find out the answer to the question of why AU Kamui is protecting the reservoir so fiercely (yes, it does involve a certain beloved CLAMP character who's been conspicuous by his absence thus far and yes, he does finally appear near the end of the volume). The big story, however, involves the two Syaorans who have been running around as we find out what is going on and more about the power play between Yuko and the evil Fei Wang. Yuko has been doing what she can to counteract what Fei Wang has been trying to do, but for reasons semi-explained in xxxHOLIc, she must ultimately remain fairly neutral despite where her sympathies lie. There is, however, someone who can act where she can not.

Although not quite on the same level as Yuko and Fei Wang, Fai is a very powerful magician - at least enough to figure out what is wrong with Syaoran and grasp the basics of what has to be done to help him. Throughout the series, he has joked about being Syaoran and Sakura's "mommy". But somewhere along the line the joke has become a truth of sorts; and at this point Fai really has become, for all intents and purposes, the mother that the kids never had to Kurogane's father figure.

When the crisis point finally arrives for Syaoran, Fai does what any real mother with his power would for their child and pours every fiber of his being into casting a spell in a desperate attempt to undo Fei Wang's damage to his foster son...

Which, of course, is exactly when his love for Syaoran turns on him and everything goes to hell.

An emotionally wrenching volume the events of which will affect the main characters of Tsubasa for a long time to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute must-have for fans of the series., March 2, 2008
This review is from: Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, Vol. 16 (Paperback)
The sixteenth graphic novel collection of CLAMP's manga series Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle climaxes in a stunning twist in the group dynamic that has been present since the very beginning. Syaoran's search to collect and return the scattered feathers containing Sakura's memory takes a dark turn when the powerful seal on his right eye is released, freeing his ruthless alter ego personality - just as another, nearly identical Syaoran wearing the livery of the group's deadliest enemy appears! An earthshaking betrayal unfolds, with the unfortunate Sakura caught in the middle. Action-packed and drawn with stunningly beautiful art, Tsubasa Volume 16 is an absolute must-have for fans of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tables Turn, June 13, 2008
This review is from: Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, Vol. 16 (Paperback)
This is the volume where everything turns around. Be ready for some serious drama and angst and some very bad news for the entire gang. Acid Tokyo is easily my favorite story arc of the entire series-- you won't be disappointed.
