This is a pewter pendant of a talisman that represents "Tsuru the Crane". In ancient times, when worn, it was said to bring purification of the soul. It has a 1 1/4 " diameter and comes on a black adjustable corded slip knot necklace. Accenting the necklace are bone and disc recycled glass beads from Ghana, Africa. Talisman pendant are said to have their own special properties, and when worn, these properties or traits are achieved by the wearer. Talismans have been discovered in all historical periods. The Egyptians and Babylonians used them attempting to alter the forces of nature. In the Middle Ages, holy relics and other objects assumed the value of Talismans in attempts to cure illnesses. Recycled glass beads are one of the unique art forms that are made by families in Ghana. Various colors of discarded glass is crushed to a powder and then heated to shape in outdoor mud kilns. The holes are then made afterwards. As with all individually hand created folk art pieces, imperfections are to be expected, and these are considered normal and part of the finished product.
