This review is from: Tu Pintas Mi Vida (Audio CD)
Charles Aznavour opened the 21st century with a great decade. He started with the strong Aznavour 2000, then Je Voyage, the very original Insolitement Vôtre, the brilliant and refreshing Colore Ma Vie, and last but not least the classy re-discovering album with the Clayton Hamilton Orchestra. Pretty impressive for a man who turned 80 in 2004. The idea of a latin album was very exciting to me, because Aznavour sure has material. Colore Ma Vie was recorded in Cuba with Chucho Valdez the year before Tu PIntas Mi Vidad was issued. The problem with Tu Pintas Mi Vidad is that, aside from the Spanish versions of the tracks taken from Colore Ma Vie, we are treated with the original non-latin sound track with new Spanish voice track. A good example is Viajar Y Viajar. This song's first version was on the album Je Voyage. The original is a beautiful ballad sung with his daughter Katia. The Spanish version on Tu Pintas Mi Vidad features the same music track with a re-recorded voice track now sung by Shaila Durcal along with Charles. The issue I have is that the original music track was not a latin-rythm track. It would have added a lot to the charm of this album to re-record the music of the tracks not taken from the Chucho Valdez sessions. I saw Aznavour in concert in Brussels in 2009, and he was giving a latin treatment to other songs from his repertoire to great effect. "She" is another good example: what a lost opportunity not to give this beautiful classic a Cuban beat . The only refreshing moment here is the introduction to La Tierra Muere, which is different from the Colore Ma Vie album. If only the rest of the album had been given the same treatment, this could have been a major CD in Aznavour's discography.

Que pena!!,
This review is from: Tu Pintas Mi Vida (Audio CD)
