Editorial Reviews

I lent Quan, singer and guitarist for Regurgitator, my Marshall JCM 800 combo amp to use for a couple of nights on tour in Adelaide shortly before this record came out. Even today I still hear the fruits of my generosity in the music of this record. What I love about Regurgitator is that their music sounds like it was made by people with a brain. I know most of the best pop music works because it operates on parts of the body well away from the cerebral cortex, but this record manages to combine the instantaneous gratification of the best pop with a wit and intelligence that gives the record genuine longevity. I haven't seen this good a smorgasbord of styles since The Swagman added coleslaw and three-bean salad to their menu out in Ferntree Gully. Songs such as Sucked A lot of Cock..., Kong Foo Sing and Social Disaster sound better than "Number 124 your meal is ready" on $10 all-you-can-eat night, while G7 Dick Electro Boogie stands as the only song in the history of rock to mention t --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

3.0 out of 5 stars potential but ultimately disappointing, January 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Tu-Plang (Audio CD)
I expected great things when I bought this CD after it had received great reviews in Australia. But after a few listens, it's clear it could have been better. Let me start by saying that there are some great moments. 'Kong Foo Sing' is the best song on the album and is a perfect combination of rap and funk with a bit of hard guitar and distortion thrown in - think a cross between the Beastie Boys and Rage Against the Machine. The other best moments are 'G7 Dick Boogie', 'Music Is Sport', the hilarious 'I Sucked a Lot of Cock to get Where I am' and 'Blubber Boy'. 'Miffy's Simplicity' is also OK. The huge disappointment for me is that I basically bought the album for the killer song 'Couldn't Do It' which is one of my favourite all time songs . But I was dismayed to find that there was a different version of this song on the album ( and a very poor, hardly recognisable one at that ). This was a huge let down. If the good version was there I would listen to this album a lot more and I would have rated it higher but this oversight prevents it from being a really good album. The rest of the songs are pretty terrible filler for the most part, especially 'Pop Porn' and 'Manana'. Overall, the fusion of styles here is terrific and the group has a unique hybrid sound going - it's a pity their musical direction altered significantly on their follow-up, 'Unit'

to the fool who doesn't know that the other version of I Couldn't Do It is on the debut EP self titled "regurgitator" and nick-named "Burger" or "the burger". This EPis the best, so is the other EP "New". So is Unit. 'Tu-Plang Kon...Uuak' is so good. I blew my top when I heard it. Stand out tracks: every one.
