Pop Rock Bliss,
By Karen Loo. (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tu Tu to Tango (Audio CD)
I first heard Axe Riverboy a few weeks ago on Youtube. He had toured with Of Montreal and he and the band spent a night on the streets of France (I think it was France...) having an improvised concert. In an alley. Around 3:00 AM. That's just twelve kinds of awesome.
That said, this album is pretty solid. It has an interesting blend of soft singer/songwriter-y sensibilities and head-bob-inducing rock. This makes it a highly accessible and enjoyable album, being mellow yet upbeat. "Roundabout" is simultaneously soft and rockin', good party music. "Cross The Line" has an unexpected, demure string backing. "Carry On" is clap-along backyard bonfire fare. Axe Riverboy is definitely an artist to follow this year.

Axe Riverboy Is TAHITI 80's Xavier Boyer,
By Flips (Hollywood, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tu Tu to Tango (Audio CD)
Looking for the perfect indie rock soundtrack for those cool autumn sunsets? AXE RIVERBOY, otherwise known as Xavier Boyer, lead vocalist of the French pop outfit TAHITI 80 (Fun fact: AXE RIVERBOY is actually an anagram of his name), is releasing his debut solo album stateside on September 11th. The artist recently came off a tour with OF MONTREAL, released a video for his first single "Roundabout," and is preparing for a US tour, all the while remaining busy with TAHITI 80. Tutu to Tango mingles bright guitar chords and sighing strings with a straightforward rock beat woven together by Boyer's winning vocals. AXE RIVERBOY meshes lively rock with killer melodies for a striking record with a tender punch. The ever versatile Boyer plays nearly all of the instruments on the album and co-produced Tutu to Tango with TAHITI 80 bandmate PEDRO RESENDE.

I bought this cd because i'm a huge Tahiti 80 fan but I was quite dissapointed with it. If you're expecting this cd to sound like Tahiti 80 you might want to sample the songs before you buy. It's not an over-all bad cd, its just not what i expected.
