This review is from: Tubular Bells (Audio CD)
I bought this vinyl album a little over 30 years ago when I was in High School. As a student of music, both in HS and in college, this was one of the finest examples at the time of music that crossed boundaries between modern and classic.
When I moved away from home after graduating from college, my father kept my album! Much to my mom's irritation, he loved to play it loud enough to actually (literally) rattle the windows in the house. It is the first piece of music I believe he and I agreed we totally loved. This album consists of 2 pieces. On the vinyl disc, it was one piece per side. Best known because if its use in the movie The Exorcist, movie-goers never got to the chance to appreciate what a masterpiece Tubular Bells really is. The best part, in my opinion, begins at about 18 mins on side one. I get goose bumps when I play it still. To enjoy this disc, you should have a very clear and crisp system to play it on. Otherwise, you'll never be able to hear (or appreciate) the absolute briliance of Mike Oldfield in this enduring work of art. I bought myself the cd, finally. And will soon ship one to my dad. I'm sure the album is unplayable by now. ;o)
