Tucket Books 1-5 (Tucket's Travels),
By Mr. Mark Fangman (Raymond, NE United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tucket's Travels: Francis Tucket's Adventures in the West, 1847-1849 (Books 1-5) (Library Binding)
As a teacher, I have found that these books are great for kids in many different grades, and reading levels. I have students in the 6th grade that love these books, and I also have struggling readers in the 10th grade that really like the Tucket series. These books are full of exciting adventures that most kids really enjoy!

Tuckets Travels,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Tucket's Travels: Francis Tucket's Adventures in the West, 1847-1849 (Books 1-5) (Library Binding)
My teacher Mrs.Theodore reads to us every day after lunch. These days she has been reading to us the Tucket books. We are now almost finished with the last book. When our teacher reads every time we beg her to read more.We can listen to our teacher read the Tucket books all year long. But there aren't enough books for that. The Tucket books are full of adventure. And I bet a lot of people agree with me when I say I wish there were more Tucket books.Gary Paulsen is now one of my favorite authors.Who also inspired me to read.I now end this review saying I love the Tucket books.

Surprisingly touching bond between a boy and his hero,
By
This review is from: Tucket's Travels: Francis Tucket's Adventures in the West, 1847-1849 (Books 1-5) (Library Binding)
Generally I am not a fan of Westerns, but I absolutely loved Tucket's Travels. Though I enjoyed the adventure and historical aspects, I was most touched by the unusual and noble bond between Mr. Grimes, the one-armed mountain man, and Mr. Tucket. One doesn't come across this special kind of friendship often in today's literature. I was reminded of the old classic, Shane. I am pleased that in this day and age there are still people writing about not only that theme, but also of individuality and the confidence that is gained when one is competent. What an excellent model to hold up for young people today. Parents can definitely feel good about letting their children read this book.

Five Books in One,
By My Opinion (Michigan USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tucket's Travels: Francis Tucket's Adventures in the West, 1847-1849 (Books 1-5) (The Francis Tucket Books) (Paperback)
It's a good thing they are all five together. This book was so good even I (mom) didn't want to stop reading it! I even cried at the end. My son (9 yrs) and I read this together. It is a very good book to read aloud because you can explain things if you need, and you (as an adult) can really add some drama with your voice. One night my son had a friend stay overnight (8 yrs) and he wasn't excited about having me read to them (especially in the middle of the book and all) but he was hooked after one chapter. I think this would be a good book for those who "hate" reading because the story just pulls you in and keeps you wanting to know what happens next. There is even a little bit of historical information and things to learn (but don't tell the kids!) I would recommend it to grades 3 and up. My 6 yr old had trouble sitting still for it.

Great Book,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Tucket's Travels: Francis Tucket's Adventures in the West, 1847-1849 (Books 1-5) (Library Binding)
I think that Tucket's Travels is a good book because there are so many adventures and I really like finishing one book after another. There are a lot of details and I think that only 8 years old or up should read the book. My favorite part of the book is when Mr Tucket gets away from the Pawnee tribe of Indians. The characters are Mr Grimes, Francis Tucket-Mr Tucket, Lottie-Charlotte, and Billy. My favorite character is,other than Mr Tucket, Lottie. I think Tucket's Travels is the best book I have ever read.

More adventure than a body can stand!,
By H Hall (South Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tucket's Travels: Francis Tucket's Adventures in the West, 1847-1849 (Books 1-5) (The Francis Tucket Books) (Paperback)
This series of stories about about Francis Tucket is chocked full of encounters with Pawnee Indians, thieves, ruthless Comancheroes, sadistic murderers, and rattlesnakes. But the stories are also populated by such wonderful characters like Lottie and Billy, Jason Grimes, the one-armed mountain man, Garcia, and Iktah. Paulsen who has the deserved reputation as a great storyteller has created a series that will entertain as well as educate. You are given a glimpse of just how harsh conditions were for early settlers in the West but the stories also re-affirms our hope that there are truly good people out there as well.

I am an 81 year old woman. My grandson loaned me Tucket's Travels, I thought, "Oh well, I'll give it a try." I couldn't put the thing down! Written for youngsters just made it easy to read, the story is such a delight, gripping, a real page turner. I stayed up way past this old lady's bed time to see what happened next!
I have ordered copies for my other grandchildren.
