This is the second novel about Henry Morane, and the sequel to "The Killing of Richard III."
The hero, Henry Morane, was a spy working for Richard III until the death of that King at the battle of Bosworth. The new King, Henry VII, saves Morane from execution at the hands of Sir William Stanley, and employs him to work for the new regime. The book contains a lot of historical details, some of it true, some of it speculation, most of it entertainingly described. It describes a period characterised by plots, counter-plots, treason and bloodshed, and one more enjoyable to read about than it would have been to live through. The presentation of Morane as a Yorkist turned Tudor James Bond is a little anachronistic, but the book is certainly fun. Just don't take it too seriously. |
