5.0 out of 5 stars Another brilliant re-release from the Tallis Scholars, March 19, 2009
By
Sid Nuncius (London England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tudor Church Music, Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
The Tallis Scholars have established themselves over the last 30-odd years as one of the world's greatest ensembles in Renaissance music. This double CD is the second in a two-volume set which includes some of their loveliest recordings taken from some of the wonderful discs they have made of the works of English composers of the Tudor period.

This volume comprises their excellent discs of motets by Robert White (including Media vita) and John Sheppard (including the Lamentations) plus three of Tallis's most beautiful motets. (You will find more fantastic Tallis on their Tallis double CD:The Tallis Scholars Sing Thomas Tallis) All the music is very lovely, featuring the high treble and great sonorities typical of the Tudor composers. There is a wealth of interesting music here and it repays careful listening, but you can also lie back if you wish and just allow the waves of beautiful sound to wash over you. It's a wonderful musical experience however you listen to it.

You can't go wrong with this set (or Volume 1) if you want introduction to Tudor church music or if you already know and love it and want really good recordings to add to your collection. I recommend these discs in the warmest terms.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tudor Church Music, Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
This product was never delivered.

I will be cancelling Amazon's charge to me credit card.

That appears to be my only recourse and I am downgrading Amazon in all my reviews for your inadequate response to this problem.
