Tuesdays return to 60's roots.,
By Grant Gaulke (Ohio, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Tuesdays (Audio CD)
I remember the first time I heard "It's Up To You". I was captivated by the jangly guitars and angelic voice of the lead singer. A few days later, I aquired the identity of the band. I picked it up the day it was released. To my joy were the girls pictured on the cover with their instrument cases. These were no Spice Girls wannabe's, but a full blown band. As for the music, there's not a single filler track on the CD. Every track is a stunner. Laila's vocals are the highlight of each track, with the guitars offering a distinctive contrast. For those who like melodic music with a lot of jangle in their guitars, this is a "MUST HAVE". "Take Me Home" is pure Beatles. "What Is Love" and "I Was Thinking Of You" show their rock side. If The Tuesdays have a Signature track, it would have to be "When You're A Tuesday Girl", The Tuesdays answer to The Spicegirls "Wannabe", a far inferior song. There is much to like on The Tuesdays CD. It has great music, great songs, and one of the best vocalists of the 90's. If you liked The Bangles or The Gin Blossoms, run, don't walk, to pick this beauty up. You'll be glad you did.

I got this cd about 3 years ago and have never gotten tired of it. It's light and fun and female powered and songs like "Its Up To You" and "Damn These Photgraphs" will have you humming them for days. The songs have heart and harmony. An excellent cd.

Among the distinctions that can be made about people, one is that there are those who demand originality, deep meaning and soul-stirring relevance from their music; on the other hand there are those who just like a bouncy tune because it makes them feel good. The Tuesdays are for the second, more well-adjusted, set. This is a compilation which borrows mightily from The Beatles - If Sandra Dee had married Paul in 1965, "It's Up To You" might have appeared on Rubber Soul. Dittos if it had been John for "I'll Be Here". Even though the style of "Too Late To Be Good" is admittedly generic, the integration of sounds and simple fun the song gives makes for a superior offering to those of us whose ears didn't just fall off the turnip truck. It will be interesting to see if this is a band that actually exists or is a studio creation - in any event, it's an easy bet that after you buy this disc, you'll replay it for one song or another within the first 5 samplings. It's a fun selection, well-produced and tight, with excellent road wearability.
