A testament to the book's readability is the fact that this is a second edition with revised and updated text. Total Nutrition has been popular in part because of its lack of glamour or slick typography. This is not the place to look for fad grapefruit diets or outlandish claims for the cure-all effect of vitamin E capsules. Instead, Total Nutrition is a reliable, intelligent resource that is not nearly as heavy as it looks. Bold headlines and frequent use of charts make it easy to dive in at random or zero in on specific issues such as the special vitamin needs of the elderly or food sensitivities. Advice on deciphering food labels, shopping wisely at grocery stores, and choosing healthful options when eating out is especially useful. Healthy recipes and suggestions on menu planning are scattered throughout. --Brenda Pittsley --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Far from being garbage this book provides a balanced overview of information on nutrition. It does challenge ideas related to food fads or quick fixes to health concerns. But it is a good basic text to begin educating oneself on nutrition.

This book was alright. Many common sense ideas, and suggestions but their was some great tips about different food products that i did not know before. The 21-day diet is also a plus. This is a good book for someone with little or no science eduction, otherwise its simply restated ideas and facts.

Garbage.,

This review is from: The Tufts University Guide to Total Nutrition: Second Edition (Paperback)
Bad science in a good cause. The book is filled with contradictory statements, dismissed many things that have since been proven correct, and full of quasi facts and political gerrymandering. There are lots better nutrition books out there.
