...plain and simple. If you have not experienced the 'Tub, this is the perfect starting point- and, ultimately, their high watermark.
From the opening salvos of "Soul Cannon" through the tribal drumming of "Sister," from the ham radio paean "Pirate 5" to the brimming misanthropy of "Mercurochrome," from the cockeyed hoedown of "Wonders of Dust" to the guitar-driven menace that is "Misty Mountain Blowtorch," SPBT deliver their masterpiece with these 11 tunes.
Get it.

I do not know if the title is a fair summary, but this wonderful CD thankfully is jam-packed with truely timeless tunes, making it hard to nail down. For those who have not heard or seen these guys (I think the chance is over), this CD captures best where this band was comming from (personally I think their high-point). Bassist and guitarest tag-team the vocals. the bassist runs the tape machine effectively adding to the tunes enjoyment (what the songs are about). The guitarest is a mad man, putting fourth incredible amounts of energy..sure enough able to make a new guitar old by the end of a show. And the drummer playing with the set low, offerers an unrelenting pounding of skins. In all of the years of seeing live shows, STBT kicks it out to stay just about on top (though it seemed like the drummer always quit too soon), with their full-power-psychodalia this trio is definately a diamond in the rough!

Very fun, very loud sludge rock with sound samples to make sure you know it is not 1970.

This stuff needs no analysis. It is viceral, uncompromised guitar fuzz joy. Think not. Play loud.

I also have a special place in my heart for this Steel Pole Bathtub. I have Cerebal Palsy, mild, and they titled an album that could be my autobiography: Scars from Falling Down



P.S. Does anyone know: at the end of Scarlet, is that John Fogerty sampled, backwards? Not being sarcastic. I think it is.

This album is probably the best example of SPBT's unique sound. Each song has its own "signature" to them; at times, this makes Tulip feel more like a compilation than a proper album. But truthfully, there are no weak tracks here (save possibly for "Myrna Loy", a piece which sets that actresses movie lines to a jazz-rock accompaniment, and even that is pretty good). My favorite tracks are "Quark", "One Thick Second", and "Mercurochrome".

It's great to have the music again - not a bad tune in the lot
