Editorial Reviews

KSTE Radio, Lafayette, December 1998

Brooke Ramel is an original, and she knows how to rock. Listen loud, and listen often.

About the Artist

Brooke was born in Raytown, Missouri. By her seventh birthday, she started playing the guitar and by the time she was 8 years old, she was playing “gigs” at local churches, fairs, pizza parlors, and the state prison. By age 9 she had made her first television appearance on a local talent show and had done a one-hour live radio show. At age 10, her family relocated in Kansas. As she progressed through junior high and high school, Brooke got involved in every choral group, play and musical possible. She found her creative outlet in doing theater while continuing to write songs such a "Boogie Down Disco Lane" in junior high and serious love songs in high school. While in Kansas, Brooke found her creative outlet in theater while continuing to write songs in junior high and in high school. Brooke attended Stanford University, in California, and after graduating moved to Los Angeles to pursue her obsession with music. Since then, she has never looked back. Brooke has been making her living as a professional artist performing in local bars, coffeehouses, restaurants, mountain lodges as well as venues such as The Coach House, The Crazy Horse and Universal City Walk in Los Angeles and the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas for well over 5 years. In 1996, Brooke recorded “Movie Star” with her producer, Johnny Pierce, and put together her first band, playing at LA clubs such as The Troubadour, Ghengis Cohen, and others. During 1998 radio celebrity Rodney Bingenheimer (KROQ) debuted her song "Mainstream" and chose it for his "Top 5 Picks of the Week." At the same time, the television series "Party of Five" featured her song "Down”. By the end of 1998, Brooke had returned to Nashville to record her second CD, “Tulips Bleed”. Songs from “Tulips Bleed” have been featured on the television shows “Ed”, "Charmed" and "Dawson's Creek". Her songs have since also been used in several independent films. By spring of 2000, Brooke had sold over 12,000 CDs on her own and had built up a substantial following. She returned to Nashville and recorded her third album, “Make Tomorrow Up”. This was released in the summer of 2000, together with her first music video. In the Fall of 2000, she appeared on the television show “7th Heaven” singing the title track of her new album. To date, Brooke has sold approximately 20,000 albums, and she's still going strong. She currently continues to play with her band in the Los Angeles area and has opened for acts such as Sophie B. Hawkins, Shawn Colvin, David Wilcox, Sally Taylor, Taylor Dayne, Warren Zevon, Jude, Grant Lee Phillips, Willie Porter, Jill Sobule, Shannon Curfman and most recently Sophie B. Hawkins, The Nelsons, Starship, Scott Wilke, Christopher Cross, Royal Crown Revue, A Flock of Seagulls, and Me'Shell Ndegeocello.
